Obituary - Eunice Louise Kennedy

Eunice Louise Kennedy, 98, of Overland Park, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 in Kansas City, MO. Eunice was born on February 27, 1925 in Pleasant View, MO (Cedar County) to John and Lucinda (Harvey) Robertson. She was married to Kenneth Ray Kennedy in September of 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1988.

Eunice was raised in Rich Hill and El Dorado Springs and graduated as class valdictorian from El Dorado Springs High School. Following high school, Eunice worked in Kansas City, KS inspecting Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines during WWII. She later worked for Hallmark Cards and Cowie Electric in Kansas City, MO.

Survivors include her son, Paul Kennedy (Beth Humphrey) of Lenexa, KS, two daughters, Deborah Kennedy of Overland Park, KS and Christina Kennedy (Greg Zaparyniuk) of Molalla, OR, one niece and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, two brothers, Wayne Robertson and Gene Robertson.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. Friends may call from now until 1:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Mary Lynn "Pete" Schmidt

Mary Lynn “Pete” Schmidt was born February 21st, 1946, at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City Missouri as the daughter of Milton and Jean Beger. Pete lived in Kansas City until third grade when her family moved to St. Joseph Missouri where she grew up and graduated from Central High School in 1964. 

Upon completion of high school, she attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg for a couple of years and then moved to Kansas City. In 1967 she moved to Gainesville Florida where she met and married Tom in 1967.

In 1973 she moved to Nevada, Missouri and quickly became involved with the community thru Jaycee’s and Jaycee wives, PTA, room mother for her children and became an active member of the Bushwhacker Committee through 2018.

In the 1970’s she opened a craft shop on the east side of the square where she taught many how to macrame, tole paint and many other crafts. Also served on the Nevada Park Board and was in on the development and building of the Nevada Swimming pool.

Early in the 1980’s she and her husband opened Daylight Donut on the east side of the square where they met many wonderful people that became friends and not just customers.

In 1989 she was asked to be executive director of a new program started by the prosecutor and associate judge. The program was named the Community Service Program of Vernon County, Inc. She held that position until the time of her passing.

In 1994 she went to work for Prosecutor Neal Quitno as a newly formed Victim Advocate position in the prosecutor’s office. This is a job she loved more than anything she had ever done. She left the PA office in 2005 and went to work at the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office until she retired in 2013 and was a certified sheriff’s deputy for 23 years.

When drug court was formed in 2001, she was an original panel member and continued on the panel until the time of her passing. She oversaw community service work for the participants. In 2015 she was asked to serve on the Mental Health Court panel and oversaw community service there for the participants.

She has been an active member with the Nevada Show Choir for many years and was given the title of “Prop Master” by the Community Council of Performing Arts for her many years of service in support of the plays. She spent many hours helping at Community Outreach with Walmart and Woods with donated food items.

Was an original member of the Advisory Board for the Children’s Center in Vernon County and served on that board for 11 years. While doing this she helped raise thousands of dollars for the center to operate and finally build here in Vernon County.

In 2016 she was named Co-citizen of the year with her husband Tom for the countless hours of volunteer work performed in the community. In 2017 she received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Elks Club for many hours of community service.

Since 2003 she has served as secretary for the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad and has been on many call outs with the squad.

In 2017 Pete was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and was stable for many years. In September 2021 she was diagnosed with brain cancer – what she referred to as an Intruder – and had a couple months cancer free. In May 2022 the Intruder picked up a Hitchhiker “breast cancer” and she received treatments to tackle this as well.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Jan Spinks. Survivors include two sons, Greg, and wife Tammy of Bartlesville, OK., and Doug and wife Keela of Radcliff, KY. Six grandchildren, Drew of Maryland, Kyle of Milo MO., Brady and Emily of Radcliff KY., and Morgan and Elyse of Bartlesville, OK.,. Three great grandchildren, Carleigh, Raeya and Kinsley. One Sister, Bobbie Steinhauser and brother-in-law Larry of Clinton MO. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Fox Theater in Nevada. Committal will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Newton Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Nevada Show Choir, VCCR or the Children’s Center in Nevada.

Butler Varsity Bears get opening season win tonight in Stockton

The Butler Boys Varsity Basketball team picked up a win tonight 60-42 over the Stockton Tigers. 

The Varsity bears was led in scoring by Senior Carter Trumbore who had 39 points. 

Butler moves to 1-0 on the season and will play next in the Warsaw Tournament starting on November 27th. 

The Butler JV Team lost tonight to Stockton 40-15.






Lady Blackhawks do well at Diamond Turkey Tussle

Your lady Blackhawk wrestlers represented well tonight in their first meet of the season at the Diamond Turkey Tussle. As a team we finished fourth overall with a team record of 13-18.

Overall we did very well as a very young team for some this was their first match ever or first high school match. A lot to build on and a lot of success early in the season.

The Blackhawks will all be back in action after Thanksgiving break on Tuesday the 28th in Knob Noster.

Obituary - Lynn Alan Frankenfield

Lynn Alan Frankenfield, 73, of Spring Hill, Kansas, passed away on November 20, 2023, peacefully in his home.

Family will meet with friends at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Paola Chapel. Service starting at 2:00 p.m. and burial at Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kansas.

He was born on March 18, 1950, to Millard and Lillian (VanZyl) Frankenfield in Van Nuys, California. He was the middle child of six children.

Lynn became a life long resident of Kansas after moving there with his family in 1955.

On June 22, 1972, he married Opal Muncy where they remained united in marriage for 51 wonderful years. To this union they added two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Peggy.

Lynn was an avid outdoorsman. On any given day, you would find him outside tinkering in his shop, in his garden, or playing with his grandchildren. If he left us with a list of chores to do, the top of that list would be to feed his catfish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Roberts; brother, James Frankenfield; sister-in-law, Barbara Frankenfield and grandson, Timothy Cartwright.

Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Opal; brothers, Charles Frankenfield and Jeff Frankenfield(Kathy); sister, Peggy Ammerman (Doug); sister-in-law, Ronda Frankenfield; daughters Michelle Hellwig (Ed) and Peggy Reiter (Leon); grandchildren Shauna, Jolie, and Audra Cartwright, Lucas, Nathan, and Lillian Reiter, and Lucy and Bill Hellwig, many nieces and nephews who are very dear to him...and please don't forget his faithful dog, Moose.

Update: Fatality accident this morning near Ballard claims the life of Windsor man

On Tuesday November 21st around 5:18 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS, Adrian Fire Department and Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle fatality accident on Missouri 18 Highway at Route BB in Ballard.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2006 Saturn Ion driven by 44 year old James A. Clason of Windsor, Missouri traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Mr. Clason was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and he was transported by the Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax. 

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Adrian Tow. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 83 fatality for the year 2023. Next of kin notified.
