BCMH Employee of the Year 2023

We are pleased and honored to announce that Joshua Sullins, RT was voted BCMH Employee of the Year 2023! The announcement was made Friday at the BCMH Winter Wonderland Employee Recognition banquet.

Josh is known to patients and coworkers for brightening everyone’s day with his kind, friendly demeanor.

He said, “What I like about my job is all the help it provides, and being able to help someone when they have an illness or give them peace of mind when all looks dark.”

The Rich Hill native graduated from Rich Hill High School in 2004 and attended Colorado Tech University, graduating in 2006. Josh has worked as a radiologic tech for 17 years and has worked with BCMH in the imaging services department since 2014. Patients may see Josh when they have a CT scan or MRI scheduled at BCMH.

Josh said, “What I like about working at BCMH is I get to be me. I appreciate my coworkers – Chris, Steve and Nikki – for teaching me what I know and how to be a Rad Tech.”

Congratulations Josh! We are proud of your accomplishments and thankful for your excellent service to our hospital and community.

Way to go Krisonna

We would to congratulate Butler High School Senior Krisonna Werner who received a $1,000 scholarship and a new computer over the weekend in Arkansas.  

Krisonna was the recipient of a scholarship from Shawn Pruitt and Basic Bros Attire LLC out of Ft Smith Arkansas. 

She will enroll in MSU in Springfield, Missouri next fall and she will be pursing a degree in Agriculture Education and Equine Science.

Way to go Krisonna we wish you the best next fall.

Two from Butler injured in Sunday evening motor vehicle accident

On Sunday December 3rd at 7:06 pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County Sheriff Deputies, Butler Fire Department, Adrian Fire Department, Adrian Police Department, and Bates County EMS responded to a 3 vehicle accident just south of mile marker 138.2 on I-49.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2016 Nissan Murano driven by 87 year old James W. Yoss of Butler struck a deer in the roadway and slowed or came to a stop in the roadway, and a 2012 Kia Soul driven by 31 year old Nathaniel S. Driver of Butler, Missouri rear-ended the vehicle, then also struck a 2017 Ford Mustang driven by 26 year old Nathaniel Bahena of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Mr. Yoss was taken by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, and Mr. Driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Overland Park Regional.

Mr. Behena did not receive and injuries in this accident.

Obituary - Dennis Leroy Davis Jr.

Dennis Leroy Davis, Jr., 55, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, December 04, 2023 in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Dennis was born December 7, 1967 in Kansas City, MO to Dennis L. and Catherine J. (Jackson) Davis, Sr. He married Carrie L. Lawson on June 6, 2006 in Nevada, MO and she survives.

Dennis was raised in Harwood, MO and attended Walker Schools. Throughout his life, Dennis worked as a truck driver, including working at MFA Propane for 6 years prior to his illness. Tom was trained in martial arts, he enjoyed fishing, cooking, and singing. But most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Carrie, survivors include: three sons, Chance Davis, and his son Malachi Davis, Nevada, Dakota Davis (Lindsay Redman), and their sons, Oliver Halcom, and Hyde Davis, Lamar, and Thomas Davis, Nevada; his mother, Catherine Atwell (Robb), Rockville, MO; step-mother, Frances Davis, Alvarado, TX; a brother, Lonnie Davis (Noel), Nevada; three sisters, Cathy Graham (Kent), Stockton, MO, Denise Nation (Ryan), Windsor, MO, and Rhonda Conard, Carthage, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Davis, Sr., and a brother-in-law, T.C. Conard.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Vernon County Cancer Relief c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Two injured in accident near Appleton City

On Monday December 4th around 12:19 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Bates County EMS responded to a two vehicle accident on 52 Highway just west of BB Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2009 Dodge 2500 driven by 46 year old Christopher Buckingham of Versailles, Missouri was making a left hand turn when he struck a 2013 Chrysler 300 driven by 65 year old Sue McDonald of Appleton City, Missouri.

Christopher Buckingham sustained minor injuries and he was transported by private vehicle to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment. 

A passenger in the Chrysler 86 year old Marjorie Miller of Appleton City sustained minor injuries and she was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Obituary - Floyd “Poppy” Emanuel Hult

Floyd “Poppy” Emanuel Hult, age 85, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 surrounded by his loving family members.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

Floyd was born in Wausa, Nebraska on March 9, 1938 to Paul and Martha Hult. After graduating high school, Floyd continued his education and received his associate degree. He worked for many years at the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where he shared his faith and love for so many others. In the summer of 1959, Floyd was joined in marriage with his wife Janice (Joachimsen) on June 21st in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Along with Floyd’s deep faith in God, came his love for old hymns. For many years, Floyd and Janice would play cards with friends often. His family was very important to him, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Floyd was a huge baseball fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. This was a lifelong passion as he would listen to games on the radio as a child and presently would have to have all the baseball channels so he would not miss a game.

Floyed was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Martha Hult; all six of his siblings; and son in law, Ernest Henry.

Cherishing Floyd’s memory are his wife, Janice Hult; daughter, Kimberly Henry; two grandchildren, Ashley Eppert (husband Dylan) and Andrew Henry; and three great grandchildren, Bentley, Harper, and Lyla Eppert.

Rich Hill woman injured in Sunday morning crash

On Sunday December 3rd around 10:20 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County EMS and Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident on V Highway just east of CR 9001 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when an unknown vehicle crossed the center of the roadway and struck a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 21 year old Kelsey R. Grishman of Rich Hill head-on.

Kelsey R. Grishman sustained minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
