Obituary - Carolyn Elizabeth Adams

Carolyn Elizabeth Adams, 89, of Peculiar, MO, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Belton Regional Medical Center in Belton, MO. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Peculiar Cemetery in Peculiar, MO. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Carolyn was born September 6, 1934 to Jack Simone and Laura Edna Mae (Schutz) Buchan in Orlando, Florida. She was raised in Independence, MO, attending William Chrisman High School. In Carolyn’s younger years, she loved square dancing, going camping, didn’t particularly like fishing but she would do it. She married E.W. “Elmo” Adams on August 20, 1970, and to this union they had four children. She spent her career working as a Cafeteria Manager at Peculiar Elementary in Peculiar, MO.

Her greatest role in life was being devoted to her family. She enjoyed teaching everyone something, so she taught her daughter, Terry, gymnastics; her daughter, Dee, how to bake and canning; and her son, Mike, how to work in the garden and hard work on all things. She continued to teach her grandchildren things, like how to crochet and ingenuity. In Carolyn’s older years, she enjoyed spending her time loving on the grandchildren. Carolyn and Elmo’s house was always ready for hungry family and friends with stories of recent and upcoming events. She will truly be missed by all those who knew her.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Jack F. Buchan, Sr. and Robert W. Buchan. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Elmo; her children: Deloris “Dee” A. Wilbanks (Jerry), Guy “Mike” Burgess (Cheryl), Teresa “Terry” Stewart (Fred), and Jimmy Bert “JB” Adams (JoEllen); four grandchildren: Melissa “Missy” Parrott (KR), Justin D. DeBrot (Joyce), Amanda DeBrot, and Michael Burgess; many great-grandchildren; and her brother, C. “Dale” Buchan, Sr.
