Butler Fire Department annual dinner held last night

The Butler Fire Department had their annual dinner last night. Dru Jordan was named Firefighter of the Year. 

Chief Bennett also recognized the following for years of service to the fire department. 

Caleb Morris received his 5 year pin, Brenda Cecil received her 15 year pin, Elijah Dawson received his 15 year pin and Everett McBrayer received his 35 year pin, and Doug Wix received his 40 year pin. . 

We want to thank the Butler Fire Department for their service and everything they do for our community.



Obituary - Belva J. McCray

Belva J. McCray, 53, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Belva was born March 8, 1970 in Excelsior Springs, MO to Juril and Gladys Belva (Wright) Craft. She was united in marriage to Mark T. McCray and he survives of the home.

Belva was raised in Excelsior Springs and in Osceola, graduating from Osceola High School. She worked as an aide in several nursing homes in the Osceola area and in Nevada. Belva moved to Nevada in 2002.

In addition to her husband, Mark, she is survived by a daughter, Ladonna Phillips (fiancé, Jwell Dunbar), Joplin, MO; two grandchildren, Tapanga Taylor, Pittsburg, KS, and David Phillips II, Gerard, KS; brothers, Steve Craft, Springfield, MO, Mark Craft (Gina), Chillicothe, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, T.J. Craft, and Jimmy Craft.

No services are planned at this time.

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for all the well wishes and the generosity shown to me on my retirement. Many thanks to my co workers and extended co workers for all the extra that went into making it such a special day. 

I was to express a special thank you to Carl Bettels for all he did to arrange having the resolution delivered and presented to me. 

I want to also another special thank you to Dane Diehl for taking the time out of his busy schedule to come to my retirement and present me with the resolution.

I will forever treasure the countless memories that we have all shared over the last 23 years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Adrian Lady Blackhawks basketball defeated Raytown in the first round of the Butler Tournament

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks Varsity girls basketball team picked up a win tonight over the Raytown Bluejays 48-40 in the first round of the Butler Tournament. 

The Lady Blackhawks will play University Academy Wednesday, December 13th at 5:00pm in the 2nd round of the Butler Tournament.
