Obituary - Donna S. Kagarice
Donna S. Kagarice, 63, Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at her home in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Donna was born October 15, 1960 to Harley and Dovie (Blair) McCulley in Harrisonville, MO. She graduated from Cass Midway High School with the Class of 1978. She married Steve Kagarice on August 26, 1978 at Freeman Baptist Church in Freeman, MO. She spent her career working for Hallmark Cards in their finance and payroll department, retiring in 2017 after 38 years of service.
Donna loved her family and her grandchildren. She loved being a grandma, playing with her grandkids brought her great joy and was something she always looked forward to. She was known for organizing the Kagarice dinners and the Elk's Hoop Shoot. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, MO, where she also helped teach Sunday School. In her free time, she enjoyed their farm life and loved the cattle they had, but she also enjoyed bowling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Dovie McCulley; and a sister, Anna Meihls. She is survived by her husband, Steve Kagarice; her son, Brian (Malissa) Kagarice; her brother, John (Trish) McCulley; her sister, Joyce McCulley; and her 3 grandchildren: Jackson Kagarice, Kennedy Kagarice, and Avery Kagarice.

Obituary - Wayne Hiestand
Wayne Hiestand, 89, Nevada, MO passed away on December 12, 2023 at Moore-few Care Center in Nevada. Wayne was born January 26, 1934 in Milo, MO to Clifford E. and Opal Allene (Folkner) Hiestand. He married Jessie “Dorene” Barger on April 29, 1955 in El Dorado Springs, MO and she preceded him in death on July 29, 2018.
Wayne grew up in Bristow (Vernon County) and graduated from Walker High School in 1952. He served in the Medical Detachment of the 135th Tank Battalion of the Missouri National Guard where he served for eight years. Wayne worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for several years and later NAPA Auto Parts in Nevada for a number of years. In the 1970’s he went to work for the FRAM Corporation in Nevada where he was an electrician until his retirement. While at FRAM he worked on the very first computers. Wayne enjoyed rebuilding old cars and trucks, working on Ford tractors and winning the Bushwhacker Parade with them three years in a row.
Survivors include his daughter, Tina Hiestand, El Dorado Springs; four grandchildren, Tristan Hiestand (Leah), Topeka, KS, Bryce Ledbetter (Mikayla), Willard, MO, Dallas Bugg (Brittani), Webb City, MO, Sarina Eaton (Zesar Huerta), Ft. Scott, KS; great-grandchildren, Mileena, Roland, Atlas, Kinlee, Logan, Rhett, Ruger, Keegan, Braelyn, and Maysa; one brother, Myron Hiestand (Wanda), Walker; and one niece, Rhonda Williams, El Dorado Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

First round of Butler Boys Basketball Tournament in the books
The Butler Bears fell to KC Metro Academy 63-46 in the first round of the Butler Tournament Tuesday night.
The bears was led in scoring by Senior Carter Trumbore with 23 points. Sophomore Jake Chandler had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards and added 4 steals, Senior Dylan Davidson chipped in 10 points as well. Newkirk led the KC Metro Mavericks with 18 points.
An overtime thriller saw the Adrian Blackhawks victorious over the Rich Hill Tigers with a final of 75-68. In other 1st round action, St. Michael beat Nevada and Kipp defeated University Academy.

Butler Fire Department annual dinner held last night
The Butler Fire Department had their annual dinner last night. Dru Jordan was named Firefighter of the Year.
Chief Bennett also recognized the following for years of service to the fire department.
Caleb Morris received his 5 year pin, Brenda Cecil received her 15 year pin, Elijah Dawson received his 15 year pin and Everett McBrayer received his 35 year pin, and Doug Wix received his 40 year pin. .
We want to thank the Butler Fire Department for their service and everything they do for our community.
Obituary - Belva J. McCray
Belva J. McCray, 53, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Belva was born March 8, 1970 in Excelsior Springs, MO to Juril and Gladys Belva (Wright) Craft. She was united in marriage to Mark T. McCray and he survives of the home.
Belva was raised in Excelsior Springs and in Osceola, graduating from Osceola High School. She worked as an aide in several nursing homes in the Osceola area and in Nevada. Belva moved to Nevada in 2002.
In addition to her husband, Mark, she is survived by a daughter, Ladonna Phillips (fiancé, Jwell Dunbar), Joplin, MO; two grandchildren, Tapanga Taylor, Pittsburg, KS, and David Phillips II, Gerard, KS; brothers, Steve Craft, Springfield, MO, Mark Craft (Gina), Chillicothe, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, T.J. Craft, and Jimmy Craft.
No services are planned at this time.
