Obituary - Betty Anne Gammon
Betty Anne (Moberly) Gammon, 96, of Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Nevada Medical Lodges. Betty was born January 25, 1927, on Clay Street in Nevada, MO to Estelle and Nellie (Burris) Moberly. Betty grew up in the Deerfield area and moved with her parents to Walker, Missouri during her senior year in high school, graduating in 1944.
Betty married Leo Gammon of Walker, MO in 1945. To this union are five children: Doug, Marsha, Dennis, Danny and Julie.
Betty lived in rural Walker working on the dairy farm and raising her five children. After many years on the dairy farm, she went to cosmetology school and received her hairdresser license. She was owner and operator of her beauty shop (Hair We Are) in Nevada, along with her youngest daughter, Julie. When her health began to fail her, Betty retired after 40 years as a hairdresser.
In 1975 Betty married John Long (deceased). Betty and John went on many fishing trips including Roaring River State Park in Missouri, salmon fishing in Alaska, camping in Colorado and traveling to Arizona. They loved traveling and had many friends in several states. One of their favorite places was at Number Two Hole coal pits in the Metz area, where they enjoyed fishing and camping with friends and family.
Betty was known for her wonderful coconut cream pies, chocolate fudge, and the peanut brittle she would make at Christmas time and give to special people. And her many clients will remember her for fixing their hair so that not one hair would dare move out of place until their next beauty appointment a week or two later.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a special aunt Lollie Dulin, one sister, Dorothy Swan, two brothers, Loren Moberly and Earl Moberly, one grandson, Dillon Lane Reed, one great grandson, Joshuah Leonard, two nephews, Jarrel Swan and Randy Moberly, and one grandson-in-law, Eric Caldwell.
Her survivors include Doug (Judy) Gammon, Springfield, MO, Marsha (David) Leonard, Walker, MO, Dennis (Patty) Gammon, Eldon, MO, Danny Gammon, and Julie Reed both of Nevada, one nephew, Kyle Moberly, one sister-in-law, Linda Moberly, and several cousins. Betty was so proud of her grandchildren and loved them all very much. Her surviving grandchildren are Gary Leonard, Kansas City, MO, Jeff (Kristen) Gammon, Dustin Gammon, all from Springfield, MO, Crystal Gammon, Claremont, CA, Kelly Gammon, Ft. Myers, FL, Jacob (Kristina) Gammon, Leray (Gammon) Caldwell, and Cody Reed, all of Nevada, MO. Betty had fourteen great grandkids and three great-great-grandkids. Sadly, her youngest grandson, Dillon Reed passed away unexpectedly. Betty and Dillon loved watching the KC Chiefs and after the game Dillon would call her and say “Hey Grandma, what about “dem Chiefs” whether they won or lost.
Everything Betty did was done with her family in mind. She would have the most wonderful Thanksgiving dinners and would cram all us kids into her house to eat. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She would have a Christmas tree decorated each year with a different theme. One year she had live goldfish swimming in clear bulbs hanging on the tree.
Betty was the rock of her family and loved by all her kids and grandkids. She will be missed by many.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Jeff Gammon officiating. A private committal will follow at a later date in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
