Santa Claus is coming to town...

Santa Claus will be in Butler at his house on the northeast side of the historic Butler Square, this Saturday, December 16th. Santa will be in his house from 2pm-4pm.

Be sure to bring the kids up and see jolly old St. Nick this Saturday.

Obituary - Victoria Banks

Victoria (Vicki) Dianne Banks, passed away peacefully at her home in Belton, Mo. Dec. 8, 2023. Vicki's wishes were to be cremated with no services.

Vicki was born April 20, 1946 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the first child of Harry and Geraldine (Paul) Banks. She began her coursework at the University of Missouri where she met and later married Jim Roither. To this union, her sons Joseph, Erik, Tim and Jason, were born. She later married Frank Miles and to this union, their son, Patrick, was born.

She was a homemaker for part of her married life and after moving back to Clinton, Missouri, she became a pharmacy technician, working at her family business, Drugs Plus, Golden Valley Memorial Hospital and Walmart pharmacies. She was a pharmacy technician until she retired.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Geraldine Banks, and her infant son, Joseph.

She is survived by her brothers Michael Banks and wife, Nita, of Osceola, Mo. and Matthew and his wife Kimberly, of Nixa, Mo.; her sons Erik and wife, Rachelle, of Clinton, Mo., Tim and wife, Renee, of Raytown, Mo., Jason and wife, Heather, of Raymore, Mo. and Patrick and wife Lora, of Clinton, Mo.; and her grandchildren, Stephen Weber, of Fort Myers, Fla., Nick Roither and wife, Morgan, of Peculiar, Mo., Chase Roither of Athens, Texas, Sean Evans of Liberty, Mo., Rachael Evans of Liberty, Mo., Drew Roither of Olathe, Kan., Joseph Roither of the Marine Corps, Jacob Roither and Jonathan Roither of Raymore, Mo. and Sean Miles of Clinton, Mo.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Patricia A. Craycraft age 75 of Cleveland, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with internment at Lutheran Cemetery, Creighton, Missouri.

Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society and send in care of Dickey Funeral Home, PO Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.

Busy time for Harrisonville Public Works Crews

WORKING FOR YOU: The Harrisonville Public Works crews are busy today, making repairs throughout the community.

Our Streets crew is repairing damaged asphalt at the intersection of Washington St and Butler Dr. One lane of Butler will be closed during these repairs. Staff will repair one lane of the intersection today and will come back to complete the other lane at a later date.

Our Electric crew is repairing street lights on the Square. Staff also upgraded electric infrastructure near the Cass County Public Library on Wednesday, by adding a transformer and squirrel guards.

United States Army SSG Cody Lee Collett Cosner, age 30 of Hope Mills, North Carolina formerly of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, December 10, 2023. He was born May 8, 1993.

Cody is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Katie” Cosner, one daughter, Georgia Cosner and one son, Bodie Cosner all of the home; his parents, Carrie and Johnny Collett of Butler, Missouri; a brother, Wyatt Wayne Collett Cosner of Butler, Missouri; and a sister, Alexis Goodale and husband Michael of Chicago., Illinois.

Lady Bears Basketball team heading to championship game this Friday

Lady Bears Basketball team heading to championship game this Friday 

The Butler Lady Bears defeated Kipp tonight 48-42 to advance to the championship of the Butler Basketball Tournament.

The bears was led by Freshman Kylee Dubray who had 14 points and 20 rebounds. Freshman Jena Tourtillot added 10 points and 3 steals.

Butler will now move on to face University Academy in the championship game this Friday night.

Obituary - Elroy "Al" Phillip Brabender, Jr.

Elroy "Al" Phillip Brabender, Jr., 75, of Archie, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO with an inurnment to follow at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO.

Al was born December 23, 1947 to Elroy Phillip, Sr. and Flora Emily (Fesk) Brabender in Menominee, MI. After high school, Al joined the United States Marine Corps in September of 1966 where he spent thirteen months at Chu Lui Base in Vietnam. After the service, he worked for the Pamona, CA, Police Department where he eventually made detective. Upon leaving the police department, he became the head of security for the Pioneer Casino in Laughlin, NV. When he moved to Laughlin, he met Ann and they were married on November 29, 2008. They later moved to be close to her family in Archie, MO, and stayed until his passing. You could find Al enjoying any kind of hunting or fishing as he loved to be outdoors. He was an NRA Instructor and a gunsmith and loved anything that had to do with firearms. Al never met a stranger and he would talk to anyone he would meet. He rarely would forget a name, even if they were classmates he had not seen since he was in grade school. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Al is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Brian Brabender. He is survived by his wife, Ann Brabender; his sons: David Brabender, Chris (Melody) Brabender, Robert (Lynn) Turner, and Travis (Shelly) Turner; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sisters: Sue Squire and Marlene Fellner.
