Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Office warns of scam

We are currently working a Grandparent scam in Linn County. What is a Grandparent scam?

The phone rings, and the caller claims to be a relative in some sort of distress. They've been in a car accident, or they've been arrested, and they need you to send money right away. Often the caller claims to be a grandchild, and a worried grandparent rushes to help.

Please talk to those in your life about this scam, we are seeing it happen frequently.

Obituary - Julie Anne Bretz

Julie Anne (Kropf) Bretz of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Research Medical Center surrounded by her family. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Julie was born August 30, 1972, to Kirby and Stephanie (Larsen) Kropf in Harrisonville, MO. She was united in marriage to Travis Lee Bretz on November 11, 1990, in Springfield, MO. Julie graduated from Harrisonville High School. One thing is for certain, Julie was never a quitter no matter what the task she stayed the course until she accomplished her goal(s). One of these goals was to attain her CDL and drive the ‘big rigs’ coast-to-coast. When physical limitations forced her to park her big rig, she turned to her first true love – her family and became a loving and devoted stay-at-home mom and grandma. Julie was a true believer in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She gained strength in knowing that He was by her side through whatever life threw her way and we take solace in knowing that she is no longer in pain and resting in his Heavenly arms until we meet again.

Julie is preceded in death by her husband, Travis Lee Bretz; her father, Kirby Kropf; and grandparents: Jack and Marjorie Kropf and Wally and Adeline Larsen. She is survived by her mother, Stephanie Kropf, Harrisonville, MO; daughters: Shelbi (Nicholas) Tinsley, Harrisonville, MO; Savanna Williams, Harrisonville, MO; and Serenity Getty of the home; the love of her life, Rodney Breit, of the home; grandchildren: Ezekiel and Eleanor Tinsley, Harrisonville, MO; Jayden and Beau Williams, Belton, MO; and Aurora and Nova Williams, Harrisonville, MO; brothers: Kyle (Jenn) Kropf, Olathe, KS; and Brian (Crystal) Rialti, Kansas City, MO; as well as, many extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Research Medical Center ICU for their relentless pursuit in providing outstanding medical care to Julie and supporting us during this difficult time.
