Obituary - Calvin D. Crawford

Calvin Douglas Crawford, 44, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born November 23, 1979, in Sandusky, Ohio. He departed this life Thursday, December 14, 2023, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Calvin was a 1998 graduate of Pleasant High School in Marion, Ohio. He later earned an associate degree from Marion Technical School.

On March 5, 2004, he was united in marriage to Chelsea N. Leavy in St. Louis, Missouri.

Calvin was a Combat Medic in the United States Army serving in Guantanamo Bay. Following his time in the Army he joined the Army Reserves and was currently serving his 15th year of service to his country. He was also proud of the fact that he was able to perform in an Avengers movie as a tank operator.

Calvin was employed in Management at Honeywell in Kanas City and had formerly worked at Whirlpool in Marion all while serving in the Army Reserves. He was a member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lee’s Summit previously attended the Warrensburg Ward. He served as a Missionary for the church while living in Carlsbad, California. He enjoyed shooting, working out and taking long hikes/walks, and collecting antiques and coins. Most important to him was his family.

Calvin was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife Chelsea of Pleasant Hill; five children, Douglas Crawford, Emma Crawford, Madeline Crawford, Carlye Crawford, and Alexander Crawford, all of their home; his mother, Selena J. Rose of Marion; Ohio; four siblings, Cheryl (and Jason) Vance of Grove City, Ohio, Benjamin (and Katherine) Crawford of Mansfield, Ohio, Kali (and Matthew) Sexton of Delaware, Ohio, and Thomas (and Ashleigh) Crawford of Nevada; his mother-in-law, Tammy (and Donald) Peck of Warrensburg, Missouri; father-in-law, James Leavy of Branson, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints – 451 MO-150, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64082. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honors Team.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Children’s Education and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Obituary - Wesley Cecil Patterson Sr.

Wesley C. Patterson, Sr., 67, passed away at his home in Belton, Missouri December 9, 2023.

Wes was born the oldest son of Paul and Clara Lackey on June 8, 1956 who gave him to his grandparents, Herbert William and Gladys Ethel Patterson, who adopted him as their son in 1958.

Wes graduated from Belton High School and joined the Federal Protective Service on September 8, 1980. 

He attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center where he was taught to be a Federal Police Officer for the Federal Protective Service, Department of Homeland Security, until he retired March 23, 2017 as a Region 6 Inspector. 

During his career he was chosen to participate in several high-level federal police events including policing at the Cuban Refugee Relocation Camp at Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1980 and served on several National Emergencies throughout the country including both 9/11 incidents 1991 and 2001. He is credited with two life saves.

Wes is survived by his daughters Vic Glunt of Colorado and Amy L. Tompkins of Belton, Missouri; son Wesley C. Patterson, Jr. of Belton, Missouri; Granddaughter Jocelynn Glunt; three grandsons Damon Stewart, Dylan Hoover and Christin. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Francis Baker, Clara Atkin, Ethel Thomas and Neva Barkdales.

It was Wes’s wishes to have no formal service, but for his loved ones to celebrate his life.

Appleton City man arrested after traffic stop

On December 18th around 4:44 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 38 year old Levi S. Hearting of Appleton City, Missouri.

Mr. Hearting was arrested for 1.) Felony Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Lane Violation 3.) Driving while suspended 4.) No Insurance.

Levi S. Hearting was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he was later cited with tickets and released.

Obituary - Virginia Mae Lucas

Virginia Mae Lucas, 69, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Friday afternoon, December 15, 2023 at her home. She was born January 19, 1954 in Anna, Illinois, the daughter of William Lee Andrews, Sr., and Barbara Lee (Linton) Andrews.

She married Eric Z. Lucas, Sr. on August 9, 1969 in Kansas City, Kansas, and he survives of the home. Virginia was a homemaker, choosing to stay home and raise their children. She enjoyed listening to music and working word puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by, one son, Eric V. Lucas, Jr. (Kayla), Clinton, Mo.; two daughters, Rebecca Murphy (James), St. Joseph, Mo., and Michelle Malotte (Leonard), Windsor, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Colby Murphy, Erica Lucas, Chris Malotte, Dylan Murphy, Matthew Malotte, Eric Lucas, III, Amanda Ott, Daniel Malotte and Zachary Lucas; six great-grandchildren; one brother William Andrews, Jr., Kansas City, Ks.; numerous nieces and nephews; and her furry friend Buttercup.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gary Andrews, James Andrews, Bruce Andrews and Gordon Andrews; and three sisters, Brenda Hill, Barbara Bloomer and Roberta Eden.

A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Virginia will be cremated following the service.

Obituary - Forest Lynn Pettibon

Forest Lynn Pettibon, 86, Nevada, MO passed from this life on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Medicalodges of Nevada. Forest was born July 27, 1937 in Deerfield, MO to Gaylord Franklin and Letha Irma (Roberts) Pettibon. He married Barbara Turnbull on February 26, 1999 at the First Christian Church in Nevada and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2018.

Forest was raised in rural Deerfield where he helped his dad on the family farm. In addition to farm life, he also enjoyed the restaurant business and spent 15 years working in a lodge in New Hampshire. As a result of growing up in the country, Forest developed a love of coon hunting. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include a sister, Anita Lightwine, Nevada; a brother, Jack Merril (Sharon), Pettibon, Deerfield; and a daughter, Alex Pettibon, New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Keith Ray Pettibon, Burl Rex Pettibon, and Grover Gay Pettibon.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, MO. Friends may call now and until noon on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Santa visited children tonight at State Farm Insurance in Butler

Jolly old St. Nick was at Kellie Davidson State Farm Insurances tonight visiting with all the little boys and girls and getting last minute Christmas wants and requests.
