Obituary - Freddie Ray "Fred" Miller

Freddie Ray "Fred" Miller, age 66, Fort Scott, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was born in Garnett, Kansas on April 12, 1957 the son of Don Miller and Harrietta Dunlap Miller. 

He graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School. Fred was united in marriage to Debra Smith on June 25, 1977. His talent of tinkering and fixing things led to a career in maintenance.

He was last employed as a Jayhawk Linn USD 346 driver, where he was liked by the students, staff, and co-workers. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his granddaughters, Lily and Mallorie, cutting wood, tinkering, dancing with his wife, and anything outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Don Wayne Miller, and two sisters, Freda Miller and Patricia Ann Miller. Fred is survived by his wife, Debbie Miller, a daughter, Danielle Casey and husband Logan, a sister, Vickie Sue Louk, two granddaughters, Lily and Mallorie Casey and his faithful canine companion, Diesel.

Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Burial will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, December 28 at the Mound City Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lily and Mallorie Casey Education Fund, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box J, Mound City, KS 66056. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Obituary - Cletus Dee Davis

Cletus Dee Davis was born on October 30, 1942, the son of Robert Dean and Alice Dorene (Brown) Davis. He passed away peacefully at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, Missouri, on December 18, 2023, aged 81. Cletus grew up in the Appleton City, Missouri, area, where he graduated from High school.

After completing his education, he began a career working as pipefitter for the Pipefitters Local Union 533, where he retired in 2004 for medical reasons. He also liked farming and tinkering. During his later years he enjoyed the companionship of Jacklyn L. Julian, who cared for him, and they spent many happy times together. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Robert Dean and Alice Dorene (Brown) Davis.

Cletus is survived by his companion, Jacklyn L. Julian; one brother Eddie Davis (Kay); three sons: Terry (Neta), Todd (Janelle), and Jeffrey (Christy) Davis; four grandchildren: Kristofer, Garrett, Kaitlin, and Mara Davis; along with extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 27th at 1pm at Hill & Sons Funeral Home 213 W. 6th Street in Appleton City. Visitation with be prior to the service starting at 12:30 p.m. 

Obituary - Donna K. Jones

Donna Kay Jones, 63, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Inurnment will be held in Orient Cemetery at a later date.

Donna was born August 10, 1960 in Harrisonville, MO, a daughter of Marion Eugene “Gene” and Twyla “Darlene” (Frye) Oliphant. She had lived in Grandview, MO and Kansas City most of her life and was a 1978 graduate of Hickman Mills High School. Donna worked as a cashier and day manager for Paul’s Drive-In in Kansas City, MO for 13 years. She had also worked at U.S.Toy. She was an avid bowler.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Michael “Mike” Jones, on March 18, 2007. She is survived by one brother, Robert “Bob” Oliphant, Kansas City, MO; three sisters: Kathy Kurtz, Vernal, UT; Paula Gerean, Harrisonville, MO; and Kelly Sloan, Grandview, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Randy Weiss named 2023 Amsterdam Citizen of the year

2023 AMSTERDAM CITIZEN OF THE YEAR IS…

Randy Weiss from Amsterdam CafĂ©!!! Absolutely no one is more deserving of this title than this man! He is always there when asked! He does so much for the school as well as for the citizens. 

His restaurant is vital to Amsterdam! He and his wife Diane also make their home here in town. Congratulations Randy and thank you for all you do for the people and our little community.

Obituary - Doug Stone

Douglas “Doug” Kyle Stone, 44 of Butler, Missouri passed away on December 19, 2023. Visitation will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 29, 2023 at Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri. 

Graveside services to follow the visitation at 3:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri. Arrangements entrusted to the Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler Chapel (660-679-0009).

Obituary - Leroy Joseph Mattson

Leroy Mattson, a truly beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his home in Clinton, Missouri. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to the GVMH Foundation and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Born on February 3, 1954, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Emil and Jeanette Mattson of Newberry, Michigan. Leroy was married to his soulmate Cindy May Mattson (Watson) until she was called home on September 12, 2013.

Leroy had a heart of gold and family was everything. He was a man who made a profound impact on many lives and was a person who would give the shirt off his back. To say he will be missed is truly an understatement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many siblings, his wife Cindy, and his son E.J.Mattson.

Leroy is survived by his daughter Kimmie Reno (Chris) of Clinton, Mo, son Barry Mattson of Strafford, Mo., son Lee C. Mattson of Kansas City, Mo. daughter Rose Mattson of Michigan, son George "Jamie" Mattson of Michigan, grandsons Jeremy Reno of Clinton, Mo, Chase Reno (Krislyn) United States Marines, Wyatt Reno of Clinton, Mo, Austin Reno of Clinton, Mo as well other siblings, cousins, grandchildren, and many friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Jackie Bearce Bike & Toy Drive a great success
