Kindness goes along way!

A heartwarming moment worth sharing: Bates County Memorial Volunteer Chaplain Mike Humphrey stopped by the hospital gift shop today in the middle of his scheduled rounds in Outpatient Specialty Clinics and the inpatient floor.

He bought several packs of M&M's® candy with his own money and took them out to the waiting area in the lobby near Rehabilitation Services. Our ears perked up when we overheard him say, "You look like you could use some nourishment," and then he was on his way. We tracked him down at the nurses' station to ask, Mike, what's the story?

He admitted that when he sees children with their parents in the hospital, he likes to give them a little treat to help pass the time more pleasantly. He does this for kids without knowing whether they are there for an appointment or waiting with their family.

It's a small gesture, but this thoughtfulness and quiet generosity makes us really proud (yet again) of our volunteers and the work they do here.
