Another Historic Night for Butler Bears Senior Carter Trumbore

On Thursday night, the Versailles Tigers came to town. The Tigers walked into the Bears Den with a 10-2 record. The Tigers come in with some impressive offensive firepower, scoring in excess of 90 points in 3 of their contest, averaging 78 points a game. The Bears come into the matchup sitting with an 8-4 record on the season.

The first half would see back and forth action with 9 lead changes and 6 ties in just the first 16 minutes of play. At the break the Bears held a narrow advantage with a score of 42-41. In the first half alone, Carter Trumbore compiled 39 points, shooting 6-9 from deep and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.

The game would continue to be tightly contested throughout the 3rd quarter, but would take a turn in the 4th. In the final quarter, with 6 minutes left to play, a 3rd Bear would foul out of the game and leave the Bears to have only 4 men on the court. Despite being down a man, the Bears would continue to play tough, and find ways to score the basketball and get stops defensively.

With 3 minutes left in the game, fouls would once again catch up to Butler as they saw a 4th Bear foul out, leaving only 3 players on the court. Despite the discrepancy in the the last quarter, the Bears still managed to put up a respectable 79 points on the night, but the Tigers 90 would be enough to take a victory over the foul riddled Bears.

While it was not the outcome that Bears faithful were hoping for, it was a gam in-which the Bears showed a tremendous amount of heart, and proved they could hang with anyone in a 5 on 5 situation.

The story of the night was Butler Senior Carter Trumbore dropping a 63 point performance on the Tigers. While it might be cold outside, Trumbore’s hand was red hot tonight. Carter hit 8 three pointers, and went 14-15 from the charity stripe. With this performance, Tumbore grabbed yet ANOTHER Butler record.

Carter now holds the record for most points in a single game at Butler, the record was previously 50 points held by Jerry Clayton from the 70s. Carter not only etched his name in the Butler record books, but in the Missouri record books as well, according to MSHSAA, Carter is now sitting at #7 all-time for points in a half with 39, and 18th all-time for points in a game in the entire state.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Albrecht with 27.

Obituary -Richard Dennis More

Richard Dennis More, age 87, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Life Care Center of Grandview.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.

Richard was born in Norwich, Kansas on December 31, 1936 to James Harry More and Hazel Gladys (See) More. Richard graduated high school and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He moved to the Kansas City area after graduating from high school. Following their marriage on July 15, 1967, Richard and his wife, Carol, lived in Lee’s Summit, Missouri until April 1, 1990, when he retired and moved to the country just south of Stover, Missouri. After spending over twenty-four years there, Richard and Carol moved to property southwest of Kingsville, Missouri in May of 2014, in order to be closer to their sons and their families. Needing to downsize, in June of 2022, they moved to Raymore, Missouri, where they currently reside. Richard dedicated thirty-four years at Honeywell as a Computer Graphics Designer. While living in Stover, Richard and Carol were members of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Versailles, Missouri.

Richard loved woodworking and helping everyone in his life. Family, friends, and neighbors benefited from his many skills. Anytime something needed repair, Richard volunteered. He built decks, put in stairways, remodeled basements, among other things. His knowledge included everything from plumbing to electrical, to carpentry and Lord knows he fixed Carol and Mick's lawnmowers at least a thousand times. If there was nothing to be fixed, he would just tell you a joke.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel More, his four sisters, Dorothy Jones, Lois Roper, Jenny May Hubin, and Rosalie Doty.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol M. (Boten) More; two sons, Terry W. More and his wife Leah Jo, Timothy “Todd” More; four grandchildren, Natalie Pottier and husband, Christopher, Terry C. More, Haley More, and Tyler More. Three step-grandchildren, Jacob Morgan and wife, Delaney, Taylor Morgan and Kaden Morgan and three great grandchildren, William C. Pottier. Reagan D. Pottier and Levi C. Pottier. In addition to many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be given to Harbor Hospice online at www.harborhospice.com or to the Alzheimer’s Association online at www.alz.org/kansascity
