Traffic alert starting Monday in Cass County

TRAFFIC ALERT: Beginning on Monday, January 22, crews will be closing portions of Orchard Road, as they replace a storm water culvert that runs under the road.

Crews will close both lanes of the road just to the south of Orchard Place subdivision and just north of 267th Street.

This new culvert will continue our efforts to prevent local flooding and will improve the structural integrity of the roadway.

Harrisonville McEowen Elementary Wildcats fourth grader Tanner Sexton is headed to State! Tanner earned first place at the District Hoop Shoot in Grain Valley this morning. 

He will compete at the Missouri State Hoops Shoot on Feb. 3 in St. Louis! Way to go Tanner!

Adrian Blackhawk Wrestling Results from the Greater Missouri Wrestling Conference Tournament

Your Adrian Blackhawk boys competed at home today in the Greater Missouri Wrestling Conference tournament and walked away with 5th place as a team with 8 varsity wrestlers and 3 JV wrestlers competing. We finished with 2 conference champs, a runner up, a 3rd, and a 4th place finisher.

Overall as a team we wrestled fairly well. Although we didn’t reach our team goal of defending our conference title we still reached some individual goals with 7 placing in the top five of their respective weight classes. Now we look to build off this weekend as the boys are back in action next Saturday in Seneca.

Barn fire last night in rural Cass County

On January 19th the Harrisonville Fire Department along with mutual aide from the East Lynne and Gunn City Fire Department responded to a barn fire at an address of 23800 S. Staley Mound Road.

While on scene crews worked diligently to assist with extinguishment and overhaul. Strong and quick work was performed under such very cold temperatures. 

No injuries were reported and the barn was a total loss.

Obituary - John Scott Williamson

John Scott Williamson, 82, of Lee's Summit, MO passed away on January 17, 2024, at St. Luke's East in Lee's Summit, MO. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date, providing an opportunity for all who knew and loved him to come together and fondly remember the incredible person he was.

John was born on June 28, 1941, in Kansas City, MO, to John S. and Helen (Harris) Williamson. John lived a life filled with love, passion, and dedication. Being a life-long resident of Jackson County, John graduated from Paseo High School. He began his career working for Milgram's as a manager for many years. Later, John served as a civil servant for the General Services Administration (GSA). His contributions to the government sector were truly commendable, and he retired from GSA in 2006 after years of dedicated service.

On January 29, 1994, John married to Charlotte (Pickard) Green, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared countless precious memories. Outside of work and his family, John had a deep affection for the game of golf. Whether he was stepping onto the green or enjoying the company of friends at Shamrock Golf Club, his love for the sport was unwavering. He also found immense joy in supporting his beloved Chiefs and Royals teams, cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Williamson. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his sons: John Williamson III and Jerrod Williamson; his step-children: John Green and Jackie Green; his sister, Sharon (Jody) Brown; and his grandson, Jack Williamson.

Obituary - Charles Wesley “Chuck” Wyatt

Charles Wesley “Chuck” Wyatt, 87, formerly of Urich, Mo., passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Laurie Care Center in Gravois Mills, Mo. He was born April 1, 1936 in Independence, Mo., the son of Russell E. Wyatt and Evelyn (Wymore) Wyatt.

The family moved to Iowa in 1946, where they began their life of farming. Chuck graduated from the New Sharon High School in New Sharon, Iowa in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Murldene Clevenger on February 11, 1955. To this union, two children were born, Debra and David.

Chuck was a member of the Lucas United Methodist Church, Urich, Mo. He loved his church and church family. He always remarked that when he walked into this church he knew he was home. He joined the Belton, Mo., masonic lodge in 2006, later transferring his masonic membership to the Garden City, Mo. masonic lodge. He was proud to be a mason and loved his brothers. He was proud of his 43 years of employment with the Book Binders Union, #60, strongly supporting his union brotherhood. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends. He loved boating and camping. Most of his camping injuries came from demonstrating his “great water skiing skills”.

Surviving are his wife, Murldene Wyatt, of the home; one daughter, Debra E. Campbell (Steve), Versailles, Mo.; one son, David C. Wyatt (Peggy), Independence, Mo.; six grandchildren, Gary Campbell, James Campbell (Brooke), Melanie Russell (Alan), Megan Von Ruden (Andrew), and Janelle Chandler; ten great-grandchildren, Zachary and Brinley Campbell, Jackson Campbell, Frankie Williams, Wyatt Isgar, Elijah Ross, Chloe, Aiden, Keiran and Sophia Cox; and many other family members and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara Standsbury; and one brother, Russell D. Wyatt.

Masonic services and celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Lucas United Methodist Church, Urich, Mo. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., just prior to the services. Services are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.
