Butler High School and other defendants named in lawsuit

Information obtained from Justia.com indicates that a lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court of Western Missouri by Plaintiff Kiley Foster via attorney Joleene Victoria Simmons. 

Defendants revealed in the filing are the Butler R-V School District, the Butler R-V School Board (Brad Stephens named) as well as individuals Darin Carter, Marci Beckley, Gregg Webb and Charles Reece.

The complaint includes some 22 allegations against the school, as well as individuals working for the school at the time, stemming from previous charges brought against Reece by Foster. 

Primary complaints include that the school did not take action when the plaintiff notified them of her allegations against Reece.

Currently the case is awaiting response from all defendants served with a summons; Mid America Live will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Obituary - Daryll Meek

Daryll Meek, 69, the biggest lover of the earth, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton, Missouri with a visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service. A reception to follow at the Eagle's Club, 723 N. 3rd St., in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to the Daryll Meek Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Daryll passed away after struggling with serious health issues for many years and a recent diagnosis of cancer, Daryll left this earth to join friends in finding new caves and finding new adventures.

Daryll had a joyfulness about him and his spirit was comforting to others. Many people liked spending time with Daryll and he them, but he was also very much of a loner who would enjoy walking on his farmland. After graduating high school, Daryll joined the Navy then returned back to Missouri after his time was up. Daryll married soon after his return and although it was not meant to be, he became the father of two daughters, Venisa and Kira. Daryll was a dreamer and adventurer which he left in the hearts of his daughters. Daryll loved spending time with his life-partner, Susan Stone, by spending lots of time doing things outside, eating their meals, and spending time with their dogs. Daryll enjoyed visiting with people and was the best story teller.

Daryll was preceded in death by both parents, Jack and Mildred (Downer) Meek and 3 siblings; Ann (Meek) Freeman, Barbra (Meek) Mascarro, and Niles Meek.

Survivors include his partner, Susan, his children; Venisa, Kira, Jerry, and Nikki, his grandchildren; Dalton, Jocyln, Vincent, Lily, Quin, Noah, and Nevaeh, and one great grandson, Walker.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

El Dorado Springs man seriously injured in Vernon County rollover accident

On Tuesday January 23rd around 8:15 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route K around six miles east of Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2020 Nissan NV driven by 22 year old Joshua Skiles of El Dorado Springs, MO traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, and traveled off the left side and overturned.

Mr. Skiles sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Obituary - Deborah "Debbie" Ann Mayfield

Graveside service and inurnment for Deborah "Debbie" Mayfield will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri. A Celebration of life service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27 at the Church on the Rock in Harrisonville. Contributions to the Church on the Rock. Deborah “Debbie” Ann Mayfield, age 70 of Adrian, Missouri died Monday, January 15, 2024 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born December 10, 1953 to Francis Fields and Mary Marie McClaskey Meredith in Smithville, Missouri.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Tom Mayfield of the home; two daughters, Kelly Dawn Mayfield of Drexel, Missouri and Amy Mayfield of Belton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Tristan Cole Decker, Thomas Lee Rogers, Abryella Dawn Rogers and Isabella Lynn Rogers; a brother, William Powers and wife Joni of Las Vegas, Nevada; three sisters, Mary Foster and husband Preston of Cabool, Missouri, Sharon Berry and husband Wayne, Adrian, Missouri and Victoria Catron of Victor, Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lois Kalthoff, Jean Utter and Fernie Adkins; and a brother, James Powers.

Prior to the coronation, the 2024 HHS Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame inductees will be honored.
