Teacher spotlight from Adrian High School

Ms. Arwood began her career in education in the fall of 2014. She has served as a Special Education teacher, an Athletic Director, and a coach of multiple sports.

Ms. Arwood earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Pittsburg State University in 2015, a Master's Degree in Special Education from PSU in 2017, and an Education Specialist's Degree in School Leadership from William Woods University in 2022. Before working in education, Ms. Arwood served six years in the United States Marine Corps. Other than time spent in the military,

Ms. Arwood has been a lifelong resident of Bates County. She currently lives in Adrian with her soon-to-be husband, Heath Oates, and her daughters, Alli and Madi.

Pedestrian struck by vehicle near Warsaw

On Monday February 19th around 9:55 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Benton County along with the Benton County Sheriff's Office responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on US 65 Highway on the Osage River Bridge.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a unknown make or model vehicle struck 39 year old Troy C. Ethridge of Warsaw, Missouri then fled the scene of the accident.

Troy C. Ethridge sustained serious injuries and he was transported by ambulance to Bothwell Hospital for treatment.

Drexel R-IV Board of Education Announces New K-12 Principal for the 2024-2025 School Year

DREXEL, MO – The Drexel R-IV School District Board of Education named Jenny Wheeler the district’s next K-12 principal.
Wheeler currently serves as a kindergarten teacher in the Drexel R-IV School District, where she has taught for the last 16 years and has 24 years of classroom teaching experience overall. Wheeler has also served as a coach, co-chair of the professional development committee and served on several other committees during her tenure at Drexel.

Wheeler earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from MidAmerica Nazarene University and her master of science degree in elementary education administration from William Woods University.

Wheeler will begin her new duties effective August 1, 2024 after current principal, Gary French, was named the district’s next superintendent last month.

Butler Varsity Bears kick off district play tonight against Holden

The Butler Bears Varsity Basketball Team (18-6) will kick off district basketball play tonight as they take on the Holden Eagles (3-20) at 6pm in Adrian.

Butler beat Holden on January 11th in the bears den by a final score of 75-32. The winner of this game tonight will move on to face the winner of the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs (15-11) vs. Windsor Greyhounds (6-17).

Season ends for Miami Lady Eagles

District High School Basketball Results: Miami Lady Eagles lost to Leeton 34-47. They lost in a hard fought game against the Leeton Lady Bulldogs. They had a great season, and we are super proud of the girls!

Miami will end the season with a 3-18 record!
