Congressman Mark Alford visits the Osage Valley Electric Cooperative office yesterday

Congressman Mark Alford, along with several members of his staff, took time to visit the Osage Valley Electric Cooperative office yesterday. We appreciated the opportunity to talk to the group about the cooperative and our infrastructure. 

We discussed our broadband project, broadband funding and our concerns about the impact recently released EPA regulations will have on the reliability of the electric grid. 

Thank you Congressman Alford for listening to our concerns. We sincerely appreciate him and his team for their interest in our cooperative.

Obituary - Patricia Guth

Patricia Guth, 66, died from cancer on May 27, 2024, at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care in Kansas City MO.

A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

She was born on November 7, 1957, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Walter Sparks & Agnes Lillianne (Larsen) Sparks. Patricia graduated from Hickman Mills Senior High School, Class of 1976. Following graduation, she attended College and worked as a Postal Carrier at USPS as well as a Lab Technician at Marion Merrill Dow and Sanofi-Aventis.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillianne, her sister Shirley Steelman, and grandson Corbin Coffelt.

She is survived by husband Kenn Guth whom she married in 1979; daughter, Jenifer Coffelt (Ryan) and their children Aviana and Dylan; daughter, Jesica Cole (Gary) and their daughter Mia; three sisters, Jan (Skip) Cornelius, Katherine (Robert) Seamon, and Mary Alger; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Glenna Jean Mason

Glenna Jean (Hukriede) Mason, 70, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation with her family at her side.

Glenna was born on November 13, 1953, in Monett, Missouri, to Carl and Glenda (Rudd) Hukriede. She graduated from Center High School, Class of 1971. 

She then married Jeff Mason in Urich, Missouri on August 20, 1975. They were married for 25 years, during which they ran a lawn care business. Mowing for residential customers in the Kansas City Area.

Glenna thought of others before herself almost always. She enjoyed going and spending time at Clinton Senior Center. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Senior Center. She enjoyed working with her hands and mind doing latch hook rugs, ceramics, and crossword puzzles. In her later years at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation her favorite saying was “Yeah Right” and she used it often in several situations. Glenna couldn't remember Dr Snells name at first so she always called him Dr. Snail. They enjoyed teasing each other about that.

Glenna is survived by her mother. Glenda (Rudd) Hukriede; 2 brothers, Charles (Kelly Jo) Hukriede, Blue Ridge, GA., Larry Hukriede (John Smuch), Cape Coral, FL ; uncle, Don (Betty) Rudd, Kansas City, MO ; aunts, Sharon Snodgrass, Kimberling City, MO, Julia (Les) Owens, Deepwater, MO, Rosalie (Billy) Gray, Purdy, MO, Carol Hukriede, Sedalia, MO, and Sharon Rudd, Bucklin, KS ; nephews, David (Jodi) Hukriede, Independence, MO, Nico Hukriede, Boca Raton, FL, Alex (Faith) Hukriede, Aurora, CO ; niece, Michelle (Doug) Gray, Warrensburg, MO ; 5 grand nieces and nephews; 5 great grand nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.

Memorial Day Service In Adrian This Morning

A public memorial program was held this morning at the Lt. Charles Garrison Veterans Memorial in Adrian . This event was the a shorter version of the service that was held Saturday for Memorial Day.

A group from Washington DC including Congressman Mark Alford and his staff was on hand for the POW/MIA ceremony today and the crowd was addressed by keynote speaker, 33 year Navy Seal veteran, Bill Irwin.

A little history about Memorial Day: 

Memorial Day, as Decoration Day gradually came to be known, originally honored only those lost while fighting in the Civil War. But during World War I the United States found itself embroiled in another major conflict, and the holiday evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars, including World War II, The Vietnam War, The Korean War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

For decades, Memorial Day continued to be observed on May 30, the date General Logan had selected for the first Decoration Day. But in 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in order to create a three-day weekend for federal employees. The change went into effect in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.
