Case Update from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office....

On November 22, 2022, William Buckler, 56, Lowry City, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy for Child Molestation 1st, a Class A Felony. 

Upon further investigation of the case, Buckler was arrested while incarcerated, on a St. Clair County warrant for four charges of Child Molestation with a bond of $200,000 cash surety.

On June11, 2024, William was found guilty by jury. He is charged with four counts of Child Molestation- 1st Degree. He is scheduled to be sentenced August 5, 2024.

Inmate workers help set up for Bushwacker Days in Nevada

Inmate workers from the Vernon County Jail helped set up for the annual Nevada Bushwacker Days at the square today.

Vernon County Chief Deputy Travis Cole, and several Patrol and Jail staff helped supervise the work day. Thank you to all who helped out!
 

Obituary - Walter Dean Elder

Walter Dean Elder, age 74 of Butler, Missouri died on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at his home in Butler. He was born October 10, 1949 to Lindsey Ray Elder Sr. and Laura Mabel Lester Elder in Ottawa, Kansas.

Walter is survived by three daughters, Crystal Elder Barnard and husband Michael of Butler, Missouri, Stephanie Hartsell and husband Justin of Garnett, Kansas and Louann Mundell of Garnett, Kansas; two sons, Ray Elder of Lawrence, Kansas and Nicholas Elder of Ottawa, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Alice Callahan of Virgina, Francis Pearsal and husband Irvin of Montana, Patty Sheler and husband Clifford of Kansas, and Barbara McDaniel and husband Roy of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his significant other, Deborah Marold; one granddaughter, Arielle Krysteen Turner; one brother, Lindsey Ray Elder Jr.; and two sisters, Diana Rose Casida and Joyce May Elder.

Today, the Cass County Sheriff's Office remembers Deputy Kevin Mayse #619. On June 13th, 1995 Deputy Sheriff Kevin Mayse succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle crash during a pursuit four days earlier.

His patrol car struck a tree on West 172nd Street, west of Holmes Road, during the pursuit. The driver he was pursuing was charged with manslaughter but convicted only of leaving the scene of an accident.

Deputy Mayse had served with the Cass County Sheriff's Office for three years. He was survived by his expectant wife, two daughters and son.

By proclamation of Sheriff Weber, Deputies with the Sheriff's Office shall display their mourning bands to honor the memory of Deputy Kevin Mayse and the ultimate sacrifice he gave to protect the citizens of Cass County.

John Louis Ledgerwood age 89 of Raymore, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. 

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with internment at Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri. 

Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. 

Family suggests contributions may be made to Freeman Baptist Church and send in care to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri.
