Highlights from the 20th annual Appleton City Car Show

IF you like classic cars then Forest Park in Appleton City was the place to be Saturday! They had a little bit of everything for anyone!

The early morning rain sure didn't dampen the spirits of anyone as over 200 cars/trucks and bikes packed into the Appleton City Park for the 20th annual car show.

We enjoyed strolling around and listening to the stories from all different kinds of car enthusiasts as well as snapping some photos of all the cool rides!

Also going inside the Zink Motor Company checking out all the antique things they have in there was very interesting, We find new things every time we go in that place! The antique fire truck show was also amazing to see how far we have advanced in technology. 

The Kettle Corn, Car show music and food was amazing at this event we believe a good time was had by all! Please enjoy some photos from today below:



































Charges filed after armed disturbance ar Cass County fireworks stand

The Cass County Prosecutor has charged 25-year-old Verrell Garrett of Grandview with a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

On July 5, deputies responded to 171st St. near Holmes Rd. (Shay’s Fireworks) in Belton for an armed disturbance call. One of the victims said the suspect waved his gun at them.

The victim reported that the suspect left, then returned to the location and waived his firearm toward them while he was driving. Several days later, deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit were able to identify the suspect as Garrett.

Deputies arrested him and he was charged on July 11. Garrett is currently being held at the Cass County jail with no bond allowed. The Grandview, MO Police Department provided assistance during this investigation.

The Butler Chamber of Commerce Yard of the Month for July is Neil and Brenda Steiner!

The Steiner’s say ‘We purchased our house in 1997 from Helen Hallam and have lived here for 27 years. We have made lots of improvements. The house was built in 1972.’

Obituary - Billie Irene Reno

Billie Irene Reno came into this world on February 2, 1943 and passed from it on July 10, 2024. She was born in Pittsburg, Kansas to William Jones and Twila (Green) Jones. 

Billie spent much of her early life on her grandparents (Claud and Alma Green) farm in rural Sheldon, Missouri. She would reside in many of the southern states with her then husband Robert Doke. She later settled in Iantha, Missouri and then Lamar.

Billie finished her working years as an arc welder at Thorco Industries. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Lamar. She lived her life on her terms and was proud of her independence.

She is survived by two daughters, Jerri (Eddie) Davis and Kimberly (Robert) Culp; five grandchildren, Judd (Dawn) Davis, Jenica (Jeremy) Phillips, Jerron Davis (Daniel Gomez), Branton Baker and Brock (Amber) Baker; seven great-grandchildren, Dalton Davis, Kenna Davis, Raylee Davis, Jackson Phillips, Jemma Phillips, Darron Baker and Harwell Baker; a niece, Marcie Palmer and several cousins.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and a sister, Patricia Talbott, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A special thanks to Helen, Lyles, Katy, Ramona, Robin, Linda and Donnie for being so kind to her.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Community of Christ Church in Lamar. A burial will be held at Baker's Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested and made payable to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

Garden City man seriously injured in Cass County motorcycle crash

On Friday July 12th around 8:45 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies, Harrisonville Police Department and Harrisonville EMS responded to a motorcycle accident on the E. Outer Road just south of Harrisonville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 1993 Honda Shadow driven by 23 year old Ryan C. Medlock of Garden City, Missouri struck a pothole in the roadway and ejected the rider.

Mr. Medlock sustained serious injuries and he was transported by ambulance to Cass Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was issued two citations 1.) Driving while intoxicated 2.) Driving while revoked/ suspended.
