Bates County represented at 2024 National High School Rodeo Finals

Let’s congratulate our two Bates County High School Rodeo competitors that traveled to Rock Springs Wyoming this week to compete in the 2024 National High School Rodeo Finals.

Hume Graduate and 2024 Missouri State Champion Trap Shooter, McCrae Rogers placed 31st out of 147 shooters.

Butler Graduate and 2024 Missouri Reserve Champion Bronc Rider, Cameron Anderson placed 56th out of 114 riders.

Great Job boys and way to represent Bates County and Missouri at National Finals!!

Butler Chamber Car Show a hit yesterday

Around 30 vehicles braved the weather yesterday as the Butler Chamber of Commerce hosted a car show on the historic Butler square. 

The crowd enjoyed food and live music from Leon Troyer with special guest Frankie G "The double axe duo" and of course some really cool cars. The trophies were fabricated and made by Bennett & Miller Transmission of Butler. 

The chamber would like to thank everyone who came out and supported this event. A special thanks to all the volunteers who worked hard to make this a success. 






Appleton City man injured in early morning crash

On Sunday July 21st around 4:15 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 52 Highway around 2 miles east of Appleton City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2016 Volkswagen Passat driven by 33 year old Evan M. Ward of Appleton City traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

Mr. Ward sustained moderate injuries and he was transported by private vehicle to Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City for treatment.

Obituary - Ronnie E. McCubbin

Ronnie E. McCubbin age 67 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Thursday, July 18, 2024 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Cremation with a Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. The family will have a time for sharing stories of Ronnie's life at 5:30 p.m.

Obituary - Marci Lynne Malisos

Marci Lynne Malisos, age 56, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Marci was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 12, 1967 to Robert and Carol (Jesse) Czechowski. In life, Marci loved spending time with her family, shopping, going to the zoo, going to the movies, and restaurants.

Marci was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Carol Czechowski; two aunts Judith Mutchler and Claudette Jesse; two cousins, Ronnie LaDolce Jr. and Joey LaDolce; father in law, Ray Malisos; and brother in law, Shane Malisos.

She is survived by her loving husband Timothy Malisos; son, Joshua Malisos; brother, John Czechowski; mother in law, Vicki Malisos; brother and sisters in law, Shawn Malisos (Becky), Kathy Allwood, and Kristie Dickerson; niece, Tara Butler; aunt, Audrey Jesse; and cousin, Terry Mutchler.

Obituary - Robert Henry Pfister

Robert Henry Pfister, age 64, of Raymore, Missouri passed away July 17, 2024, at his home

A prayer service will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Cullen Funeral Home, Inc. 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri. Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. followed by the prayer service at 5:00 p.m. An inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date.

Robert was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Robert E. Pfister and Kathryn L. Jones. Robert was one of six children to this union. He graduated from Ruskin High School. After graduating high school, following in his father's footsteps, he joined the Ironworkers Local Union #10 in Kansas City. Robert worked as an iron worker for 10 years. On August 18,1988 he suffered a fall while at work paralyzing him from the waist down.

In life Robert was blessed with two children, Jason and Sara. Despite being in a wheelchair, he went on to coach his children in several sports. He also enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball and softball. In his early years he loved spending time at Lake Pomme De Terre with his large family at his parents’ lake home. He was an avid Chiefs fan and Jeopardy whiz. Robert's pride and joy was raising his two children and watching his grandson Eli grow up.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Kathryn L. Pfister; and sister, Joyce Pfister.

He is survived by his loving children, Jason Pfister and Sara Hedrick (Nathan); one grandson, Eli Hedrick; four sisters, Paula Madden (Dennis), Beverly Kearns, Patty Lee (Lindell), and Barbara Tompkins (Ken); and several nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Bobby dearly.

Fatality UTV accident in St. Clair County

On Friday evening July 19th around 7:58 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a UTV accident on private property around 4 miles west of Collins.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when 40 year old Russell T. Wiley of Independence, Missouri was operating a Can-Am recreational off-road vehicle when he struck a hill and overturned ejecting Wiley from the vehicle.

Mr. Wiley was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Sheldon Funeral Home in Osceola. The fatality was the 50th in 2024 in Missouri Highway Patrol Troop D. Next of kin notified.
