From the desk of Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax
I wanted to let you know that just after 11am today (7/31/24) I was called to a residence in the 400 block of S. Lyon St. in Butler. A 63 year-old man was found deceased in his home following a wellbeing check requested by family who had not heard from him.
Although this gentleman would have been susceptible to heat issues, the home was well-cooled and I found no initial indication of hyperthermia.
Obviously, I post these things for public awareness. But also, to remind those of you who do check on others during heat waves, thank you! You've probably saved lives.
Bates County continues through 2024 with so far two prolonged heat events, and no heat deaths.
Most respectfully,
Greg D. Mullinax
Bates County Coroner
