Cass County Sheriff's Office congratulates Sgt. Eddleman

Today, Cass County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eddleman earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Missouri D.A.R.E. Officers Association.

Sgt. Eddleman started her career as a School Resource Deputy and D.A.R.E. instructor in 2005. Since then, she has taught thousands of students in eight different Cass County school districts. Sgt. Eddleman has also served over a thousand students in our annual Summer D.A.R.E. Camps.

“I’ve seen firsthand the impact Sgt. Eddleman has had on our community. She’s done so much to positively influence the lives of kids in Cass County. We couldn’t be happier for her as she receives this prestigious award,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.

Ellett Memorial Hospital Community Block Party

We're excited to see everyone at this year's EMH Community Block Party. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28th. 

The Block Party will be at Ellett Memorial Hospital from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Note that while vendors at the Block Party are scheduled for 9AM-2PM, lab draws and the 5K both start at 8AM.

BIG NEWS!! Harrisonville Elementary Wildcats focus facilitator Ryan Schliem has been selected as the August winner of the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan honor. Each season Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and Sporting Kansas City team up to recognize Blue KC Sporting Samaritans - students and teachers who make the KC community a better place to live, work and play! 

Ryan will be honored during a pre-game ceremony at the Sporting KC game on Saturday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. against Orlando.

Rice Road in Butler closed today

Rice Road in Butler is closed for repair  today near Jones Brothers Lumber. 

The road is expected to be closed until 4 pm or thereabouts. 

Obituary - Charles Clinton Sorenson

Charles Clinton Sorenson, age 85, of Liberal, Missouri passed away July 28, 2024, at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage, Missouri.

Charles was born August 5, 1938 in Liberal, Missouri, to Ralph Sorenson and Violet (King) Sorenson. On October 24, 1959, Charles married Nancy Ann Essex in Liberal, Missouri.

Charles served our country as an acquisition radar operator in the D Battery, 5th Missile Battalion-55th Artillery of the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas from 1961 to 1964.

Charles was a farmer and lifelong resident of Liberal, Missouri. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in various sporting events over the years. Charles was a member of the Mindenmines Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly (Joel) Dermott of Liberal, Missouri; one son, Charles (Doris) Sorenson of Joplin, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amanda (Dustin) Davison of Liberal, Missouri, Sara (Lindsey) Watson of Greenfield, Missouri, Tucker (Jess) Dermott of Wheaton, Missouri and Jacob Dermott of Joplin, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Rowdy Davison, Kyle Watson, Riley Watson, Ava Lombard, Carter Lombard, Hazel Dermott and Hadley Dermott.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Sorenson; his parents, and his grandson, Everett Vance.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, MO.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to Mindenmines Christian Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

Joshua Tyler Riley, age 33, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly early Monday, July 29, 2024.

A celebration of Joshua’s life will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will be held between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. with a family and friends sharing at 5:00 p.m.
