James Allen Brock age 46 of Archie, Missouri departed this life Sunday, August 4, 2024 at his home in Archie, Missouri.

Cremation with a Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Harrisonville Church of The Nazarene, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Traffic Alert in Henry County

Henry County – Drivers can expect one-lane traffic and travel delays when a project to replace two southbound bridges Missouri Route 13 over Truman Lake north of Deepwater begins the week of August 7, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The bridges, originally built in 1964, carry approximately 16,000 vehicles per day and are in a deteriorating condition.

Beginning Wednesday, August 7, contractor crews will close the north- and southbound passing (left) lanes, to work on building crossover lanes on Route 13. When the crossover lanes are complete, southbound Route 13 traffic will be shifted head-to-head onto the northbound lanes and will remain in this configuration for the duration of the project.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Beginning Wednesday, August 7, north- and southbound passing (left) lanes closed for construction of crossover lanes
  • On completion of the crossovers, southbound Route 13 traffic shifted head-to-head into the northbound lanes over Truman Lake north of Deepwater for the duration of the project
  • Expect delays during high traffic volume times
  • One lane open in each direction at all times
  • Speed limit reduced to 55 mph through the work zone
  • No signed detours
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone\
    Drivers should consider alternate routes during the project
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.

Obituary - John Leslie Anderson

John Leslie Anderson, 63, of Butler, MO, passed away on July 31, 2024, at his residence in Butler, MO. 

A graveside service will be held at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 3:00 pm.

Obituary - Fritz Theodore Koopmann

Fritz Theodore Koopmann, known to many as Junior, 83, Deerfield, MO passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Fritz was born January 4, 1941, in Deerfield, MO to Fritz Wilhelm Emil and Leola Anna Marie (Breitbarth) Koopmann. He married the love of his life Sharon Lynne Clark on June 18, 1965 in Nevada, MO and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Fritz was raised in Deerfield and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1959. A few days later, following graduation, he joined the US Army where he served for three years and was stationed in Germany for a time. Following his time in the military, he returned home to the family farm and began farming and never quit. His vocation and avocation were the same – farming. Fritz loved the Lord, studying the word, and was always ready to learn more. He was a longtime member of the Clayton Christian Church and attended First Christian Church in Nevada for the past several years. On March 21, 1971, he and Sharon were baptized at the Rinehart Christian Church. Fritz was a man known for his honesty.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; two children, Theodore Lee Koopmann (Dawn), Webb City, MO, and Susan Christine Beltz (Matt), Deerfield, MO; three grandchildren, Alexander Koopmann, Aryn Decker, and Tess Decker. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale Koopmann; and two sisters, Shirley Earll, and Jolene Koopmann.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with David Fish officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in his name to Ozark Christian College or the Show-Me Youth Home c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Have you seen this missing woman from Pleasant Hill?

Good afternoon everyone. The Pleasant Hill Police Department is currently looking for a missing adult. She goes by Retta Young and she is 71 years of age. Last seen walking from the area of Rice and Lexington. 

She was wearing a tank top and shorts (unknown color of clothing), and glasses. Officers are canvassing the area currently to try and make contact and make sure she is ok.

Traffic stop in Osceola leads to drug arrest

On July 30, 2024, Officer Kauffman, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and a lane violation in Osceola City Limits. Officer Kauffman observed the passenger shaking. Officer Kauffman observed the driver sweating along with signs of possible narcotic use. Chief Shumaker arrived on the scene to assist. 

Officer Kauffman and Chief Shumaker conducted a probable cause search of the driver, passenger, and vehicle. Officer Kauffman located methamphetamine on the driver and used syringes in the vehicle. 

Officer Kauffman and Chief Shumaker learned that the driver was on probation and parole for possession of a controlled substance and that the passenger had a non-extraditable warrant out of Greene County, Missouri. The driver was identified as Jesse Lawson out of Springfield, Missouri. 

A felony possession of a controlled substance will be sent to prosecuting attorney Daniel Dysart. The driver was also issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and will be sent to prosecuting attorney Joshua Jones.

Obituary - Braydon Dean Cannon

Braydon Dean Cannon, age 20, Hume, Missouri died Friday, August 2, 2024 as the result of a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Hume R-VIII School, Hume, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.

Out of control grass fire in rural Rich Hill

The Rich Hill Fire Department along with mutual aid from the Butler Fire Department are on scene of a grass fire that is said to be out of control on State Route PP near the address of 3211.

The fire is said to involve a couple of acres and there are no structures in danger at this time.
