The only chance for rain looks to arrive this evening and persist into early Monday morning across eastern Kansas and far western Missouri. Otherwise the coming week looks nice and dry.

Butler Chamber Yard of the Month for August
The Butler Chamber Yard of the Month for August goes to Keiya Shobe! We would like to take a moment to appreciate all of the work that Keiya has put into making Butler Beautiful!
Keiya told the Chamber, ‘This house has been in my family for over 50 years with several family members living in it over the years.
Keiya told the Chamber, ‘This house has been in my family for over 50 years with several family members living in it over the years.
At one point it sat vacant for years and was going to be torn down. That is when my father, Melvin Shobe decided to fix it up for me and my daughter about 15 years ago.
I have slowly done upgrades over the years and recently had the outside redone by Nick Alkire. It may be a small house but I love it and all the memories, old and new that come along with it.’
Thank you from the Nevada Fire Department
A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the church fire this morning. Lamar and Fort Scott for your ladder trucks. Milo, Walker, Deerfield, Compton Junction, El Dorado Springs and Bronaugh Fire Departments! Thank you to VCAD and Nevada Police and the extra officers who came in off duty.
Thank you to McDonald’s for bringing multiple trips of coffee in the morning hours and the people who brought breakfast and lunch. Thank you to all the firefighters who came in and worked this fire.

Sandra “Sandy” Marie Hilbus, age 59 of Adrian, Missouri died Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born February 10, 1965 to Oscar Patrick and Judith “Judy” Carol Lewis Wiggins in Montebello, California.
Sandy, one of six children moved to Amsterdam, Missouri with her family at a young age and began grade school. Eventually the family would move to Adrian, Missouri where Sandy called home for the rest of her life. She was a 1983 graduate from Adrian High School. Sandy had two children Carolynn and Clair. She spent a large portion of her life working at Subway as an assistant manager. Sandy also worked in banking, the restaurant industry, and spent some time working at Casey’s General Store.
Sandy is described as loving, sentimental and ornery. She loved her family dearly and they were everything to her. Sandy enjoyed doing embroidery, quilting and sewing–even sewing her mother a quilt using her grandmother’s antique sewing machine. She also loved cooking, and according to the family, made the best cinnamon rolls. Sometimes Sandy would need more room while rolling out the cinnamon rolls so she would use wax paper on the floor. Her later years were spent surfing the internet and playing games on her phone. Sandy’s most important aspect in life was spending time with her family but never withheld telling her daughters what to do. Sandy will be forever in the hearts of her friends and family…but always missed.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Norman Hilbus of Adrian, Missouri; two daughters, Carolynn Hilbus of Adrian, Missouri and Clair Hilbus of Rolla, Missouri; two grandchildren, Brayden Hilbus and Rylie Sallee; her mother, Judy White and husband Larry of Butler, Missouri; her father, Oscar “Pat” Wiggins of Higden, Arkansas; three sisters, Lorena Dickey of Butler, Missouri, Alice Nelson of Lamar, Colorado and LeAnna Fisher and husband Jeff of Adrian, Missouri; one brother, Doug White and wife Shelli of Adrian, Missouri; one uncle, Jack Lewis of Harrisonville, Missouri; and one aunt, Jean Thornbrugh of Vacaville, California.
