Matthew Prater, age 52 of Clinton, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 2nd, 2024 at Adair Village, Clinton, Missouri after a year-long battle with cancer. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri. A private family inurnment will be held in Englewood Cemetery at a later time. Memorial contributions can be made to the Adair Village Activities Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home.
A lifelong Clinton resident, Matt was born November 20, 1971, at Clinton General Hospital to Thomas and Dorothy (Fellhauer) Prater.
Matt was a 1990 graduate of Clinton High School and completed the welding program at Clinton Vocational School.
Matt lived life on his terms. He was a proficient welder, mechanic and had knowledge of all things mechanical: tractors, cars and guns. In his youth he was an avid deer hunter. He loved music, movies and spending time playing Magic: The Gathering with his friends. He fiercely loved his family, friends and his cat, Midnight. He was appreciative of care received from Golden Valley Memorial Hospital and Hospice Services, and Adair Village. A final act of kindness, and representative of Matt’s care of those in his circle, was to ask his hospice chaplains to pray for a friend that needed it more than him.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Gladys Fellhauer and Wallace and Nora Prater, parents, Tom and Dorothy, his uncles, Alan Prater and James Fellhauer, his aunt Betty (Paul) Brown and brother-in laws, Rick McClellan and John Minnick.
Matt is survived by sisters Theresa McClellan, Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Cindy Minnick, Clinton, nieces Kristen (Mike) Thiessen, Colorado Springs, CO, Nora (Marc) Baumgarden, Grace (Matt) Barber and nephew Connor (Corinne) McClellan, great nieces and nephews, Ireland, Matt and Raiden Barber, Andew and Brooke Thiessen and Owen, Ian and Maggie McClellan and a host of good friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Mary Ann Kern
Mary Ann Kern, age 80, of Drexel, MO, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
Mary was born September 10. 1943 in Rich Hill, MO to John F. and Ida Elizabeth (Gamble) Luther.

She was a graduate of Appleton City High School and had worked as a nurse’s aide in hospitals and nursing homes.
In 2010 she married John W. Kern, and he survives of the home. She enjoyed her flower garden and dancing, which is where she met her husband, John.
In addition to her husband John Kern, she leaves behind a sister, Ruby, of El Dorado Springs, MO. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Rosie and Ada; and two brothers, Johnny and Bobby “Junior”.
There will be a private family service.

Ellett Memorial Hospital would like to congratulate Hunter Nissen, EMT for being chosen September Employee of the Month!! Hunter is known for giving a helping hand with patient's and staff.
He makes sure every patient is taken care of and that all their needs are met. Hunter even comes in on days off to do things needed to help patients. He is very friendly to everyone he meets. He always had a smile and will go out of his way to do anything for anyone.
Patient's love Hunter. Hunter has been with EMH as an EMT since June of 2021. As a professional co-worker, he is also a great husband to Lynsey and father to baby girl Addilyn Rose. He was presented a Employee of the Month certificate, a designated parking spot and a meal ticket. Hunter show true HEART as an employee and we are blessed to have him on our team. Charles R. Myers, 98, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville.
A Graveside Funeral Service, with military honors, will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas.

Butler Lady Bears Varsity Volleyball Team gets win tonight against Harrisonville
The Butler Lady Bears Varsity Volleyball Team picked up a win tonight 3-2 in 5 sets over the Harrisonville Lady Wildcats tonight to open the season.
The scores from tonight are as followed: Varsity: 25-19, 27-29, 17-25, 25-19, and 15-8. JV and Freshman teams both lost in 2.

Obituary - Corwan Garel Akers
Corwan Garel Akers, age 88, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at his home in Nevada. Corwan was born February 11, 1936 during a blizzard on a farm in Gravity, IA to Darrell Ray and Atha Yvonne (Cunning) Akers. He attended Gravity High School and graduated Class of 1954.
In June of 1958 he married Virginia Lee Haynie. They lived in Clarinda, IA as Corwan worked for the newspaper there. In October of 1958, Corwan was drafted into the Army and served basic training in Texas. During that time Virginia remained in Clarinda, IA, working at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. After basic training Corwan was assigned to advance training and Virginia joined him in Texas at that time where they lived off base in Kileen, TX. Corwan was assigned to Erlangen, Germany three months later and Virgina joined him there. They lived off base in
Erlangen and toured western Europe traveling through many countries.
Following Corwan’s discharge from the service they returned to Iowa where Corwan worked for newspapers in Iowa and Missouri, retiring in 1992. In 2003, they moved to Alamo, TX spending six years before returning to Nevada, MO for full retirement.
Corwan enjoyed his travels with Virginia, being with friends, working outside in the garden, especially being with his grandchildren.
Corwan is survived by two children: Randy Akers (Claudia), Nevada, and Robin Berry (Daryl), Blue Springs, MO; six grandchildren, Jeremy Akers (Ashley Bare), Overland Park, KS, William Saunders (Teresa), Ft. Scott, KS, Jesse Akers (Abbey Gavin), Nevada, Jackie Wheeler (Tyler), Independence, MO, Jeremy Berry, Blue Springs, MO, and Jeffrey Berry, Warrensburg, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Ethan, Charlie, Dylan, Khloe, Brady, Charlie, and Daisy; two sisters, Karen Withington, Maryville, MO, and Patricia Johnson (Eddie), Corning, IA; one brother, Dennis Akers (Rita), Shenandoah, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his parents; an infant brother, Roland Akers and an infant sister, Phyllis Akers; three sisters, Wylene Barker, Donna Burns, and Dwylah McColm.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Ray Dean Scism officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bonnie Lucille Beisley, age 80, Sheldon, MO passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Bonnie was born February 24, 1944 in Sheldon, MO to Samuel Ray and Atha Lucille (Green) Milligan.
Bonnie attended Sheldon Schools and received an Associate Degree in Business from State Fair Community College, and a Business Degree from Draughon’s Business College. She began working at Farm & Home Savings in 1977 and later retired from US Bank. Bonnie enjoyed square-dancing and was a member of the Mo-Kan Squares for many years. She also had a love of flowers and gardening.
Survivors include four children: two daughters, Terri Starbuck (Bruce), Milo, MO, and Cindi Louderback (Kelly), Lamar, MO; two sons, Scott Beisley (Sally), Milo, MO, and Russell Beisley (Lesley), Sheldon, MO; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Milligan, Lamar, MO, and Donald Milligan, Denham Springs, LA; and a sister, Mary Jadlot, Nevada, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded by her parents; two sons, Mark Beisley, and Lonnie Beisley; an infant daughter, Rebecca Beisley; a brother, Cecil Milligan, and an infant brother, Carl Dean Milligan.
