Obituary - Sharon Noel

On September 5, 2024, after a lengthy illness, my friend and wife for nearly ½ century was taken home by Jesus. Sharon Cecilia Noel was born in Bellflower, CA, on May 22, 1961 to Leo and Patricia Parker. They lived in Anaheim, CA, later moved to Norwood, Colorado and then to Nevada MO. She was a kindhearted, perceptive advocate for those in need and a fierce defender of God.

Sharon graduated from Nevada High School in the class of 1979. While studying with her friend, Pam Ellifrits, she met her future husband, Karl Noel and they were married on April 18, 1981. She later graduated from Missouri Southern State College with a BS in Special Education degree and an Associate's degree in Psychology.

She taught for nearly 30 years in Cassville, Carthage, Carl Junction, Nevada, Bronaugh and St Mary’s School in Nevada. In between teaching jobs, she took off a couple of years, started a wonderful assistance organization with Kerry Keckley called Angel Mommies, ran an assistance business called Errands from the Heart, sat on the Carl Junction City Council, worked 8 years for the Missouri Division of Family Services, Salvation Army and substitute taught. In her spare time, she loved craft shows, decorating, painting, and talking with family and friends.

Sharon is survived by her husband Karl, of the home in Bronaugh, Mo; three sons, Bryant Noel (Amanda), Montgomery, AL, Chase Noel, San Antonio TX, and Evan Noel, Kansas City, MO and Bronaugh, MO; one sister, Linda Norris, Joplin, MO; her father- and mother-in-law, Norman and Rosemary Noel, Bronaugh, MO; and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by a sister, Nancy Parker; her father, Leo Parker; a brother, Leo (Butch) Parker, and her mother, Patricia Bomar.

Service arrangements will be announced by Ferry Funeral Home.

Rich Hill Lady Tigers Volleyball started their season with a strong showing

The Rich Hill Lady Tigers started their season with a strong showing, securing victories for both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams against the Miami Eagles. The Varsity squad won a thrilling match 3-1, with set scores of 25-19, 17-25, 26-24, and 25-11. Meanwhile, the Junior Varsity team is also 2-1, with set scores of 24-26, 25-14, and 25-14.

Lanie Phelps led the team with 10 aces, followed by Izzy Swope and Emily Mackey with four aces a piece. Maysi Miller showed up with 23 kills for the team with Briley Steuck earning 8 kills. Ava Tialino, Leeanna Bell, and Abi Reed supported the team with blocks and plays at the net.

The Lady Tigers will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their first home games next week. They'll face off against Jasper on September 9th and Golden City on September 10th. Don’t miss the chance to cheer on the Lady Tigers as they continue their season!

Narcotics search warrant served in Butler

On 08/30/2024, the Butler Police Department served a narcotics search warrant at a 509 N Austin Street.

As a result of the search warrant, multiple items of suspected narcotics were recovered as well as drug paraphernalia. Some items recovered tested positive for fentanyl.

As a result of the search warrant, an arrest warrant was issued for Stacey Thomas.

Stacey Thomas is currently in custody and was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Thomas was assigned a bond amount of $50,000 Cash Only.

Obituary - Charlotte Sue Phillips

Charlotte Sue Phillips, age 92, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

A memorial service will be held at at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Blue River Bible Church, 15608 Fairchild Drive Kansas City, Missouri 64147.

Charlotte was born in Polo, Missouri on January 12, 1932 to Earl Hauser and Grace (Thompson) Hauser. Charlotte graduated high school and continued on receiving her Master’s in Education from Central Missouri State Teacher’s College (Currently UCM). For thirty years, she taught elementary students in the Clinton Public Schools. For many years, she attended church with her late husband Jim at Mt. Zion Methodist until they ended up at Blue River Bible Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Charlotte was active in her church life, teaching Sunday School and Bible Studies. She was also a teaching leader with Bible Study Fellowship for 12 years.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Grace Hauser; loving husband, Jim Phillips; two sisters, Nancy McCollough and Shirley Halbur; and one nephew, Mike McCollough.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeff Phillips (Sheryl) and Jon Phillips (Marsha); grandchildren, Bryce Phillips (Katie), Alexis Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Marcus Phillips (Lynsey), and Jenae Phillips; great grandchildren, Joel and Miles Phillips; and nephews and niece, Jim McCollough (Charlotte), Steve Lacey (Ann), and Pam Thomason (John).

Archie teen injured in Cass County Crash

On Wednesday September 4th around 6:30 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies and Harrisonville Police Department responded to a one vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 161. 4 in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2014 Hyundai Elantra driven by 18 year old Walker P. Swanson of Archie, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guard cable.

Walker P. Swanson sustained moderate injuries and he was transported to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Obituary - John Wayne Nash

John Wayne Nash, age 76, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at home.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. An inurnment will be held at Raymore Cemetery following the services.

John was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 25, 1948 to John William Nash and Mary Louise (Jefferson). After high school, John honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. In life he loved gardening, writing, watching TV shows and watching golfing, and was a great story teller.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Nash and Mary Longwell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dinah Nash; children, Kelly Michelle Nash, Chad Michael Nash, Eric John Nash, and Jennifer Elizabeth King; sister, Deborah Nash; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Obituary - Larry Lee Holcomb

Larry Lee Holcomb (76), of Raymore, MO, stepped peacefully into eternity at 5:00am on September 1st, 2024 in the comfort of his own home.

Larry was born on October 11, 1947, in Bethany, MO to Lila Lea (DeWitt) Holcomb and Argel Lee Holcomb. Larry graduated from Coffey High School in Coffey, MO in 1965. He was drafted into the United States Army and started his service in November of 1967. He was called to bravely serve in the Vietnam War in 1968 and was honorably discharged in November of 1969 earning several medals and awards. He would later go on to enlist in the United States Army National Guard in 1977 and was honorably discharged in August of 1979.

Prior to deployment, Larry met Theresa Darlene Burge on July 24, 1966. Their first date was at a tractor pull in Hamilton, MO. Throughout their marriage, they would enjoy numerous tractor pulls together. They were wed on January 11, 1970, and were happily married for 54 years.

After years of trying unsuccessfully to have children, Larry and Theresa sought to adopt a child of their own. After waiting 14 years, their only son, Drew Allan Holcomb was born on October 2, 1985. On August 13, 1986 he became officially theirs and they have been a happy family ever since.

Larry worked several jobs throughout his life. He had stints working as a school bus driver, fast food worker, and worked at multiple warehouses. He worked 10 plus years for Toys R Us Distribution Center in Lee’s Summit, MO and greatly enjoyed the work and the people he worked with. For the first several years of Drew’s life, Larry’s favorite job was being a stay at home dad.

Throughout his life, Larry loved to travel. The day before his passing, he was making plans to visit one of his favorite places, Branson, MO with Theresa to see the lights at Christmas. Whether it was camping at Wallace State Park or their other favorite campsites, or taking Drew to visit different Major League Baseball ballparks, Larry loved traveling and spending time with his family. He had quite a fondness for the food and music at Hard Rock Cafe. He always made it a point to seek one out in his travels and he built quite the collection of pins and glasses. He must have made it to at least 20 different locations and was hoping to get back on his feet to visit many more. He shared in the days before his passing he wanted to get up and walk again so he could take his grandchildren to Disney World. He never liked staying in one spot for too long which is why he would always load up in his power chair and hit the road!

When he was at home, you could often find Larry at McDonald’s enjoying daily coffee with his group of friends. He wasn’t loyal to just McDonald’s though as he would make the rounds to Starbucks, Culvers, Taco Bell and anywhere there was someone nice to chat with.

Larry was active in church his whole life. Larry and Theresa were very active in their Sunday School class at South Haven Baptist Church right up until his fall. He loved the people of the church so much and they loved interacting with him each week.

In his final years, the biggest joy of his life was spending time with his precious grandchildren. Taking them on vacations, to Sky Zone, to parks and playgrounds, and especially out to eat. These were his favorite joys.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lila and Argel Holcomb.

He is survived by his wife Theresa Holcomb, his son Drew Holcomb (Hollie), and his grandchildren Graham, Carson, Owen, and Haddie Holcomb, his brothers David Holcomb (Patsy) and Garry Holcomb (Betty), and his aunt Janice Wilson, He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, and a great-great niece as well as well as many great friends, that, while so important, are too numerous to name here.

Larry was the epitome of a people person. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh and was ornery as ever until his final breath. We are sad because we will miss him so much, but we are comforted knowing that he is finally at rest and walking strong in Heaven with his savior, Jesus, and that his family will be with him again someday. He was so proud to serve his country and we are even more proud of him for doing so.

A memorial service will be held at South Haven Baptist Church on Saturday, September 14th with visitation starting at 10am and funeral to follow at 11am.
