Stolen trucks in rural Butler

On 9/10/24 the Bates County Sheriff's Office took a report of two stolen trucks from a farm east of Butler on County Road 5004.

The theft may have happened sometime between Sunday and Monday this weekend. If you have any information please contact a Detective at 660-679-3232

Obituary - Dale Kiesel

Dale Kiesel age 82, of Adrian, Missouri passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 at his home in Adrian. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). 

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Salem Cemetery, Foster, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Salvation Army. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome,com.

Dale was A Christian who loved His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dale Antony Kiesel, was born to Herbert W. Kiesel and Laurie Haney Kiesel, on July 29, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his dad shared the same birth month and day.

As a child, Dale and his brother Sandy spent several years living with his mother, stepdad and stepsiblings in Arkansas, California and Idaho. One season, he and a stepsister followed the wheat harvest working with crews in Nebraska, Kansas and Idaho. When he was about 12, Dale returned to Missouri to live with his dad, grandmother and brother Sandy, who had returned several years earlier.

In his late teens and early 20's, Dale worked for the Seven Up Bottling Company in North Kansas City. He was a sign installer for the company. If anyone remembers the green and white metal, 7-Up signs on small country stores and such in this area, He probably was the installer.

In 1963 he married Sharon Kaye Finkle. The couple first met in the early 1960's, when Dale's best friend married Sharon's aunt.

Dale and Sharon married December 6, 1963. They spent most of their lives in and around the KC area except for a short time in Colorado, where Dale, and Sharon's dad, worked in housing construction as roofers.

Sharon and Dale welcomed the births of their two children, Sandra Kaye in 1966, and Darrell Antony, in 1974.

Dale continued working in housing construction, primarily installing patio doors, windows and mirrors, from 1964 to 2014, when he retired. Before his retirement, he was proud to have worked those last few years together with his partner and son, Darrell, in the construction business.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandmother and brother. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon, daughter Sandra(Smith) and son, Darrell, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.

Rich Hill Fire Department responds to field fire today

Around 1:50 p.m. RHFD was dispatched to 100 rd and Chauteau rd in Vernon County for a field fire. The fire was brought under control around 4 p.m.

3 firefighters and 2 trucks responded from Rich Hill. Hume had 4 trucks and several guys respond.

Obituary - Roy Gifford Walker

Roy Gifford Walker, 83, son of the late Bonnie and Osie (Reed) Walker, was born November 4, 1940 in Trenton, MO. He passed away on September 6, 2024 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.

Roy attended elementary and high school in Laredo, MO. He spent two years in the armed service, 1963-1965, serving for a time at Ft. Sill, OK and at Ft. Benning, GA, where he trained as a paratrooper with the Airborne Division; later he served as a drill sergeant, teaching hand-to-hand combat methods before his honorable discharge in 1965. Roy returned to the Trenton, MO area and worked in the construction industry for 20 years and then as an over-the-road truck driver, hauling loads of freight all across the country for 27 years.

Roy was united in marriage to Ella Mae Wilkison and they are the parents of two children: Nancy and Mike; this union ended in divorce. Later, Roy married Patricia Harris on December 7, 1984 in St. Joseph, MO. They lived in Holden, MO while Patricia worked as a nurse, and then Montrose, Missouri when they retired.

Roy was preceded in death by Patricia in September 2014, his wife of 30 years, whom he cared for during her last two years of illness. In addition to his wife and parents, Roy was preceded in death by his siblings: Carl D. Walker (d.1992) and his wife Jolene Walker (d.2013) of Trenton, MO, his sisters, Velma I. (Walker) Clark (d.2002) of Milan, MO and Mildred (Walker) Hammond (d.2010) of Trenton, MO and brother-in-law Norman (D.2022) of Trenton, MO. He is survived by his sister Veda Stewart of Trenton, MO, and his brother Lester James ‘L.J.’ Walker of Phoenix, AZ. Roy is also survived by his two children: Nancy (Charles) Engeman of Montrose, MO and Mike (Sandy) Walker of Harrisonville, MO. Also surviving are five Step-children: Karen Dickens of Grain Valley, MO, Sennie (Marvin) Pierson of Blue Springs, MO, Mark (Esmarelda) Neal of McAllen, TX, Matthew (Kelly) Neal of Higginsville, MO, and Mr. Kelly James Neal of Alexandria, TN; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the promotion of Jacque Watson to the position of Captain and Jail Administrator. With over a decade of experience in the field of corrections, Captain Watson brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and compassion to this critical role. Her promotion reflects the dedication and commitment she has shown throughout her career, and we are excited to have her lead our Detention Center into the future.

Captain Watson’s journey in corrections began in 2013 with St. Clair County, Missouri. She joined the Henry County Detention Center in 2016, quickly rising through the ranks, from shift supervisor to operations sergeant. Her hands-on experience, coupled with her background in long-term care, has provided her with a unique perspective on the intersection of corrections and rehabilitation. Captain Watson was instrumental in implementing the Pretrial Release program in Henry County, which has helped countless individuals get back on track and succeed in their personal lives while resolving legal matters.

Sheriff Brown speaks highly of Captain Watson's leadership abilities, saying, "Captain Watson’s passion for both her team and our clients speaks volumes about her dedication to this community. Her drive to constantly improve the quality of care we provide at the jail, both for staff and the individuals in our custody, sets a high standard for the future of this office. I have no doubt that Captain Watson will continue to lead with the same integrity, compassion, and determination that has marked her career so far."

In her new role as Jail Administrator, Captain Watson will oversee a staff of 20 and manage the detention center’s budget, working to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of both the staff and inmates. Reflecting on her promotion, Captain Watson said, "I am incredibly honored to step into this role and continue working alongside the amazing team at Henry County. Jailing gives us a chance to watch people grow, set goals, and overcome obstacles—whether it's our staff or the individuals we serve. I truly believe in our mission to not just keep people behind bars, but to help them find a better path forward."

Captain Watson’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplified her ability to navigate the complexities of corrections while prioritizing the health and safety of all. Her promotion to Captain marks a new chapter for the Henry County Detention Center, one that will be defined by compassion, growth, and a commitment to rehabilitation.

"Seeing our clients succeed, watching our staff grow, and knowing we’re making a real difference—that’s what motivates me every day," added Captain Watson. "I look forward to continuing this work and pushing us even further as we help transform lives."
