Obituary - Jesse Eugene “Bunny” Murray, Jr.

Jesse Eugene “Bunny” Murray, Jr. 63, of Milo, MO, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, resulting from a motorcycle accident near Collins, Mo. 

He was born December 19, 1960, in Lamar, MO to Jesse Murray, Sr and Karen Leer. He attended Nevada High School. He received a degree in automotive technologies from Denver Institute of Technology in Denver, Co. 

He worked on the oil rigs in Jewelsburg, CO for several years before returning to the Nevada, MO area. He worked at 3M as well as doing construction and carpentry work. Jesse was truly a jack of all trades. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, spending time with his friends and family. His biggest enjoyment in life was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He was united in marriage to Loretta Kay Buckner-Nordyke on November 19, 1992. Jesse is survived by his wife, Loretta, of the home; a brother, Randy Murray, Glenham, South Dakota; Jerry Murray (Devon), Nevada, MO; Shelly Murray Smith (Mark-partner), Springfield, MO, and Travis Murray (Carmen) Burlison, TN; three children, Stephen Buckner (Karina), Milo, MO; Kristian Vision (Cody), Jasper, MO; Colt Alexander (Heather), Potter, Nebraska: six grandchildren: in-laws, Mary Buckner, Kimberly Newton, Karen and Bruce Jefferies, Larry and Lisa Gardner, Kenneth and Shelly Buckner, all of Sheldon, MO and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him greatly.

Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Murray Sr, father-in-law, Raymond Buckner, and his grandparents. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Sheldon Community Building in Sheldon, MO. Boil water advisory for some parts of Butler

There is a boil advisory in effect due to a water main break on Fulton Street from Pine to Mill Street.

The boil advisory will last for at least 24 hours. We will update you once the advisory has been lifted.

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative Members in western Bates County are currently experiencing an outage due to several broken poles from a small storm with a big punch. Crews are work to make repairs and restore power as quickly as possible.

City of Butler received the 2024 Innovation Award from the Missouri Municipal League

The City of Butler received the 2024 Innovation Award from the Missouri Municipal League on Tuesday in Branson MO for the Kenton and Friends Inclusive Playground. This playground was design for all kids of the spectrum to interact and play.

This is an ongoing project and we will continue to develop and add new equipment in up coming years. 

This playground was named after Kenton Schowengerdt for his achievements and inspiration to all in our community. We would like to thank everyone that helped make this playground a possibility.





Runaway juvenile in Belton

The Belton Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating runaway juvenile Andrew Reed. Andrew is 11 years old, 4 ft 6 in tall, 67 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Andrew was last seen wearing a Royals t-shirt, black pants, white tennis shoes with a green jacket around his waist. Andrew also had bandages on both of his hands. Andrew was last seen on foot in the area of Emerson and Autumn Dr.

Anyone with information on Andrew's whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Chrostowski with the Belton Police Department at 816-331-1500.

BHS Junior Class still looking for concession stand workers for this Fridays game

The BHS Junior Class is still needing student or parent workers for the concession stand at the varsity football game Friday night (9/20).

Butler Rotary Cub News:

As we age, we experience cognitive decline which is the natural aging process. Psychologist , Dr. Mike Gardner of Adrian, MO, gave a clinic presentation to Rotary Club of Butler members. 

Talking to ourselves, out loud best, seems to slow attention deficit. Retrieving our wealth of information is hard and we tend to get distracted he called it "tangents.". 

Mike commanded our attention. No side bar conversation, checking phones or if you are old enough to understand clicking ink pens In retirement he raises tomatoes and is the supplier for Daniel Horner's Wine Journal. He has over 40 varieties. I baked him oatmeal cookies for his thank you gift. Thanks again Mike.

Successful night for the Drexel Lady Cats Volleyball teams

Successful night for the Drexel Lady Cats volleyball teams last night versus Kingsville. The MS team won 2-0. 

The JV won 2-0 and the varsity won 3-0. Up next for the Lady Cats, the MS travels to Sherwood to take on the Lady Marksmen today, 9/19. The B game begins at 5:00 followed by the A game. 

The HS teams host the Archie Lady Whirlwinds tonight, 9/19. This is a WEMO Conference match. The JV starts at 5:30 followed by the varsity. Come out and support the Lady Cats!!
