Fugitive from out of state arrested in Cass County

On Wednesday September 25 just after midnight, deputies conducted a vehicle stop for expired license plates in rural Harrisonville.

Deputies arrested 31-year-old Jacob Ott of Garden City, MO and seized drugs, a firearm and a knife.

Dispatch also confirmed Ott had a warrant out of Jackson County, KS for Failure to Appear in Court for an amphetamine charge.
He has since been charged for being a Fugitive from Out of State.

Regarding the arrest in Harrisonville, Ott has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Ott is currently at the Cass County Jail with no bond allowed.

Arrest made in Belton armed car jacking




Today, the Cass County Prosecutor's Office charged Rodnae Gorham and Rodneysha Gorham with Accessory Vehicle Hijacking / Deadly Weapon in connection to the carjacking incident in Belton that was on 9-24-2024. Both defendants are being held without bond.

This is an ongoing investigation and more charges may be forthcoming.

Obituary - E. W. "Elmo" Adams

E. W. "Elmo" Adams, 85, of Peculiar, MO, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Peculiar Cemetery in Peculiar, MO. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Elmo was born May 13,1939 to James and Bessie (Bilyeu) Adams. He was born and raised in Ozark, MO. In Elmo’s younger years, he played guitar and mandolin, even playing in a band in Ozark. He married Carolyn (Buchan) Adams on August 20, 1970 and together they had four children. He spent much of his career managing the lumberyard at Payless Cashways in Grandview, MO. A while after the closure of Payless, Elmo couldn’t stand the boredom and went to work in the paint and hardware department at the Harrisonville Wal-Mart.

Elmo was an ordained minister in the RLDS church. He also operated his own businesses over the years, most notably Adams Supply Company through which he stocked many small businesses with gloves, socks, and other similar products. As a businessman, Elmo was very organized and particular. He ran his home much like his business, always ensuring things were taken care of and everyone’s needs were met.

Elmo is preceded in death by his brother, Derwood; his parents; and his wife. He is survived by his children: Delores “Dee” A. Wilbanks (Jerry), Guy “Mike” Burgess (Cheryl), Teresa “Terry” Stewart (Fred), and Jimmy Bert “JB” Adams (JoEllen); his grandchildren: Melissa “Missy” Parrott (KR), Justin D. DeBrot (Joyce), Amanda DeBrot, Michael Burgess (Alesha), Amanda Adams, and Bryan Achor; as well as, many great-grandchildren, other family and dear friends.

Nevada man arrested on 2nd Degree Class D Assault Charge

On September 24th the Nevada Police Department arrested Austin Haws of Nevada, Missouri after a assault that occurred at a gym in Nevada.

The Nevada Police Department says the incident occurred when Mr. Haws allegedly got into an argument with the alleged victim at a local gym which escalated into Haws shoving the victim before the victim shoved him back and Haws punched the victim twice in the face. 

While talking with Nevada police officers, Haws allegedly said the argument started because the victim looked at him wrong.

Austin Haws was charged with 2nd Degree Class D Assault Charge and his bond was set at $10,000 cash only.

Obituary - Terrell R. Warren

Terrell R. Warren age 79 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

Cremation with a Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Spencer Hall next to St. Peters Episcopal Church, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Inurnment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas at a later date.
