Obituary - William "Bill" Ward

William "Bill" Ward, 64 of Orange County California passed away September 23, 2024. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Arlie Ward. He was born on December 19, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas, to Helen Marie Poindexter-Guerrero and Gilbert Ward. William was a beloved son, brother, and uncle.

He attended school in Wichita, and worked as a warehouse operative and in retail in Kansas and California before retiring. William's hobbies and interests included automobiles, diecasts, attending car shows and listening to live music. William was kind, polite and respectful to everyone he met.

He is survived by his sister, Lou Wanna Katz and husband Harold, and nephew Michael Everitt.

Deloris Maxine Colin, age 93 of rural Butler, Missouri died Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Appleton City Manor in Appleton City, Missouri. She was born September 7, 1931 to Jeff and Mary Roof Barber in Walker, Missouri.

Deloris is survived by a son, Dale Colin and wife Debbie of Appleton City, Missouri; a daughter, Penny James and husband Jerry of Polo, Missouri; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three sisters, Nadine Knowles of Rich Hill, Missouri, Geraldine Thrasher of Georgia, and Beverly Wyrick and husband Jeff of Raymore, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd Colin on April 3, 2009; a son, Brad Colin on April 10, 2018; and a brother, Richard Barber.

Thank you Hank Roberts for presenting the Butler Rotary program today. He sang and presented very interesting points of history in Missouri, including order #11.

State Farm Student Athlete of the week: Butler Sophomore Kylee Dubray

Our third Athlete of the Week award goes to Sophomore, Kylee Dubray. Kylee was nominated by Head Coach Heather Goldammer who stated, “Kylee is a 4-sport athlete. I don’t think there is a time of the year when she isn’t in a gym, on a court, or on a field.

She was the Class 2 Shotput State Champion and Discuss State Runner-Up; then, not more than two weeks later she was in the gym and on the softball field working to make herself and her volleyball, basketball, and softball teams better. As for volleyball, she didn’t miss a day of summer workouts, league games, or camps.

This dedication has paid off this season. Even though we are only at the halfway point of our season, she has already surpassed her kill total from last season. Kylee is a kind, humble, and supportive teammate, and I believe she is very deserving.”

Kylee plays volleyball, basketball, softball and runs track for Butler. When we asked Kylee what she thought was the biggest challenge today for student athletes she stated, “managing it all and getting good grades.” When we asked her what she felt it took to be an elite athlete she stated “you have to give 100% no matter what. Also, you have to put the extra time in.

” Last, we asked Kylee who her biggest role model was for sports and she said, “my parents are my biggest role models. My dad was also a good athlete in high school so I like to look up to him.” It was a pleasure speaking with Kylee and we wish her and the Butler Bears the best of luck as they take on Stockton on Monday.

Obituary - Thomas (Tom) Lee Reed II

Thomas (Tom) Lee Reed II, 60, passed from this life on September 10, 2024, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, MO. Tom was born in Kansas City, MO on January 9, 1964, to Thomas Lee Sr. and Kathleen Eleanor (Green) Reed. Tom’s parents would later welcome a sister, Tammy Elizabeth.

Tom was born with the heart of a servant. He was sensitive to the needs of others and this would help set the direction for his life. After graduating from Nevada High School in 1982, he would earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Preaching and Biblical Studies from Oklahoma Christian College in 1986. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Southern State College in 1994. He found a place to combine this training for the good of others while working as a Social Worker for Pathways and later as a drug and alcohol counselor with Compass Health. He recently achieved 25 years of service.

Tom was an active member of the churches of Christ (Restoration Movement). He used his talents to preach sermons, lead singing, teach Bible study, and work with youth ministry. He traveled to foreign missions in Brazil and India. He also participated in mission trips closer to home in Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

While at Oklahoma Christian, Tom was a member of two student organized gospel acapella vocal groups, singing first tenor. One group, named New Creation, produced three studio recordings and appeared at various venues. Singing was a means of joyful expression for Tom and in addition to leading singing at church, he sang several times with Community Choir, a part of the local Community Council on the Performing Arts.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. He will be missed by his co-workers and church family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Ferry Funeral Home, with Bro. Dick Harris officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Nevada Church of Christ in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Amber Alert in Missouri canceled after child found safe

The Missouri Highway Patrol says the Amber Alert has been canceled and the child is safe.

At approximately 5:17 PM a deputy responded to an address on Cedar Hill Loop, a rural Warsaw address, in response to a missing juvenile. After investigating, it was determined that the juvenile female was possibly picked up by her estranged mother and possibly headed to Idaho. 

An Amber Alert has gone out. We are looking for a black Toyota Rav4 with a MO license number TC2 Z7B. If you see this vehicle, please dial 911. I will post more as we have it.
