The game against Osceola was filled with exciting milestones! Senior Lanie Phelps reached 800 assists in her high school volleyball career, and senior Maysi Miller earned her 500th kill during the second set of the varsity match. Both Maysi and Lanie were also recognized for achieving over 500 digs.

Butler JH Football takes on Sherwood tonight
The Butler JH Football team hosted the Sherwood Marksmen tonight in a game that ended in a tie 12-12. Butler was led in the game by two touchdowns by 8th grader Frazion Wisdom.
Butler will end the season and looked to build on this in the future. Thank to everyone who came out and supported this team as well as the parents who sent us information and photos! We couldn't cover news without you!

Marcella Marie Dines, age 96 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Medicalodge of Butler. She was born October 21, 1927 to Lowell Arkley and Mildred Marie Pyle Frieze in Dade County, Missouri.
Marcella is survived by two daughters, Marcia McElwain and Lynn Kauffman and husband David all of Butler, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jennifer McElwain Hudson and husband Pat, Jon McElwain and wife Toni, Jesse Kauffman and wife Josi and Kent Kauffman; seven great-grandchildren, Hanna, Joshua, Ronnie, Bradley, Rene, Isabelle and James; a sister, Florilla “Frosti” Tiona of Butler, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Dines on October 5, 2010; a son-in-law, Ronnie McElwain; and an infant brother, Lowell Frieze Jr.

Gary Keel Poland, age 84 of Paola, Kansas formerly of Butler, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 12, 2024 a month shy of his 85th birthday with his daughter and granddaughter by his side. He was born November 19, 1939 to John Keel and Marjorie Ellen Hawley Poland in Compton Junction, Missouri.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna; five children, Shawn, Kurtis, Christina, Matt (Maryah) and Gari Dawn; 13 grandchildren, Kelsi, Steven, Gatlin, Houston, Cheyenne, Alyssa, Valerie, Ashley, Audrey, Evona, Caleb, Mitchell and Victoria; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennie Poland (Johannah); and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike Poland.

Butler Lady Bears Volleyball sweeps Sherwood tonight on Senior Night/Go Pink Night
The Butler lady bears volleyball team swept the Sherwood lady marksmen tonight on Senior Night/Go Pink Night for the bears. The set scores were as followed:
Freshman Team: 1st set - 25/10, 2nd set - 25/23. JV Team: 1st set - 25/14, 2nd set 25/17.
Freshman Team: 1st set - 25/10, 2nd set - 25/23. JV Team: 1st set - 25/14, 2nd set 25/17.
Varsity Team: 1st set - 25/8, 2nd set 25/14, 3rd set 25/13.
The Butler lady bears volleyball team is now 24-5-2 on the season and they will hit the road next to face the Lone Jack lady mules on October 17th.

First freeze expected Wednesday morning
Temperatures will again be cool tomorrow morning with lows falling into the mid 30s to lower 40s. Patchy frost will be possible across northern Missouri.
However, our first freeze is expected area-wide Wednesday morning. Sensitive vegetation will need to be protected to avoid damage or being killed.
Obituary - Martha Lou Bridges
Martha Lou Bridges, 93, of Adrian, MO, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Butler Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Butler, MO. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Martha was born March 6, 1931, to Elmer Wells and Emma Frantz in Geneva, NE. She grew up with her three sisters and went to school at Adrian R3 until she graduated in 1949. On January 29, 1950, Martha married the love of her life, Charlie Oliver Bridges. They lived their married life in Blue Springs, MO; Polo, MO; and for the last 52 years in Adrian, MO, before Charles passed. They had three boys in this union: Martin, Michael, and Rodney. Martha was great with anything string, sewing and especially crotchet, she even won contests with her work.
Martha is preceded in death by her spouse; parents; all of her siblings; and daughters-in-law: Geraldeane V. Bridges and Dianna L. Bridges. She is survived by her sons: Martin Bridges of Grain Valley, MO; Michael Bridges of Amsterdam, MO; and Rodney Bridges of Adrian, MO; grandchildren: Dana, Angie, Martin Jr., Kathy, Dustin, Mathew, Chris, Evan, Darren, and Austin; 31 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
