Appleton City wins in a shootout against Drexel

The Appleton City Bulldogs got a big win tonight over the Drexel Bobcats in 8 man football district action with a final score of 102-74!

Appleton City will now be moving on to the next round of playoffs as they will travel to play the Archie Whirlwinds next Friday evening for the District Championship! Best of luck AC Bulldogs!!









Adrian gets district semi-final win tonight over Lincoln 55-14

The Adrian Blackhawks moved to 9-1 on the season as they rollover over the Lincoln Cardinals tonight 55-14 in the district semi final tonight in Adrian.

The Blackhawks led this contest with the score of 38-8 at halftime and really never looked back.

Adrian will now move onto host the the Ash Grove Pirates (8-2) next Friday night in the District Championship game. Best of luck Blackhawks!

Butler bears football season ends tonight in Pembroke Hill

The Butler bears hit the road tonight as they traveled to take on the Pembroke Hill Raiders. Butler took the opening drive and fumbled which led to Pembroke first touchdown! The Raiders would lead after the first quarter 7-0.

Butler would throw an interception early in the 2nd quarter which would lead to another Pembroke Hill Touchdown and the Raiders would lead 14-0.

Pembroke Hill would score two more times in the 2nd quarter and lead at halftime 27-0. Pembroke Hill would return the opening 2nd half kickoff for a touchdown which push the lead to 35-0. 

Butler would end up losing 49-6 and end the season with a 6-5 record. We would like to thank the seniors for all their dedication and commitment to the football program! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.








BCMH November Employee of the month

 We would like to congratulate Ben Landers, MLS, our November Employee of the Month! 

Ben is a medical lab scientist working in the hospital’s Laboratory since June of 2021. 

Ben’s colleagues describe him as kind, courteous, and always willing to lend a hand. Whether it’s assisting with a co-worker’s workload or stepping in during times of illness or vacation, Ben’s willingness to help does not go unnoticed. His proactive approach is one of his standout qualities—he often anticipates needs and completes tasks without being asked, ensuring the smooth operation of the lab. 

Though his face time with patients may be limited, Ben's interactions are always characterized by professionalism and warmth. In the lab, he consistently delivers accurate and timely results, treating each responsibility with the utmost care and precision. His commitment to quality work and his conscientious approach to patient care have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. 

Ben is truly an asset to BCMH, and his contributions continue to enhance our hospital’s overall success. We are proud to recognize him for his hard work, dedication, and positive impact on our workplace.

Obituary - John Leroy Taylor

John Leroy Taylor, 80, Fort Scott, KS passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott following a lengthy illness. John was born on November 27, 1943 in Ft. Scott, KS to John and Bertha (White) Taylor.

John was raised in Fulton, KS and attended Fulton High School. He then entered the US Navy and later served in the U.S. Coast Guard. John lived and worked in Montana for a number of years and Amarillo, TX for many years before coming back to Ft. Scott in 1984. He has lived in Ft. Scott ever since. John was an avid Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed boxing and classical music.

John is survived by his son, J. R. Taylor, Richards, MO; daughter, Brenda Pettit, Ft. Scott, KS; grandchildren, Paige Nelson (T.J), Bates City, MO, Shelby Pettit, Greenfield, MO, Sidney Pettit, Nevada, MO, Joseph Reynolds, Pomona, MO, and Taylor Foulk (Matt), Ft. Scott, KS; great-grandchildren, Naithan Johnson, Kaiden Nelson, and Charlie Foulk; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Stephanie Beerbower; granddaughter, Chelsea Hood; five sisters and one brother.

A private family celebration of life is planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Structure fire in rural Crawford County

At approximately 10:29 on October 30, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a structure fire at 1085 North 7 Hwy. Upon arrival, the house was found to be fully engulfed. The house was a total loss. 

The fire was ruled an accident with no injuries. Officers from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Crawford County EMS, Sherman Fire, District 4 Fire, Hepler Fire, and Arma Fire responded to the scene. No further information was available. 


Adrian Blackhawks pay tribute to the Veterans

The Adrian Blackhawks paid tribute to veterans today at the Annual Veterans Day breakfast and assembly organized by Adrian FBLA. Red, white and blue filled the halls, the Commons and the gym. 

All grade levels sang patriotic songs, and the band played music to recognize and honor to each branch of the military. Awards were presented to students (Kaylee Davis, Corbin Russell, Olivia Engeman) for their essays about patriotism. Mrs. Kinda Williams, FBLA Adviser and Business Teacher, was presented a much deserved award from the VFW for Teacher of the Year.

Thank you to the veterans in attendance today and to all veterans who have served or are serving the United States of America.
