Law Enforcement Memorial coming to Cass county
Sheriff Weber is announcing the addition of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Memorial — which will be for deputies who have died in the line of duty.
The memorial will be placed on the north side of the Sheriff’s Office lawn, it will be a large black stone with a brick walkway.
This memorial will honor the three deputies who have died in the line of duty while serving at the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Two of those deputies lost their lives on this date 159 years ago. Deputies James Holmes and James Copeland were killed attempting to arrest a man for murder on January 22, 1866.
This June 13 will mark 30 years since the death of Deputy Kevin Mayse, who died from injuries sustained in a pursuit with a suspect in 1995.
This project will give employees and the general public a chance to purchase bricks honoring their loved ones who have served at the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Donors will also be able to show their support for the memorial. The cost of the bricks is being used to help fund this memorial project.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard is leading this effort, along with the Cass County Sheriff's Auxiliary.
“The Sheriff’s Office has lost three deputies in the line of duty in its 175 year history. This memorial will serve as an important reminder of these deputies who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Cass County,” said Sgt. Bill Talley, team leader of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.

Warmer temps on the way!
The latest forecast indicates that we will no longer be subjected to Siberia like wind chills starting in the near future. With that, precipitation chances are minimal for about another week.
