This week we say goodbye to Physician Assistant Megan Reno, who has been a valued member of the Nursery Street Family Care Clinic team since 2017. Megan’s dedication, skill, and compassion have made a lasting impact on both our patients and staff. Her commitment to providing excellent care and her positive, caring presence will be truly missed.

Miami R-1 school receives substantial grant

Mrs. Johnson received an $80,000 matching grant for the district from Acellus. This grant will help the district provide more diverse course opportunities for students. 

She attended Acellus Gold Administrator Training at the Institute of Science and Technology the past few days as one of the grant’s requirements. 

Mrs. Johnson is now an Acellus Certified Administrator. Congratulations on your accomplishment and thank you for all that you do to help the Miami students and district.

Obituary - Jacqueline Litten


Jacqueline Litten, age 90, died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 29, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri. Jackie, as she was known to all, was born on July 24, 1934, in Nevada, Missouri, to Leslie L. (Jack) Beshore and Gladys A. Marple. She graduated from Nevada High School and lived in Nevada until 1997 when she and her son, Kurtis, moved to Webb City, Missouri.

She married the love of her life, James (Jim) Litten, at his parent’s home on July 11, 1959, in Springfield, Missouri. Jim preceded her in death in 1993. They had one son, Kurtis, who preceded her in death.

Jackie worked as telephone operator in Nevada for the Bell Telephone Company for many years before her job became obsolete. She and Jim were in the restaurant business for many years, owning and operating Huff’s Truck Stop and later, the West Side CafĂ©, on the Nevada square. For some years after that, they owned and operated Litten’s Service Station. She was a fabulous cook and was best known for her homemade noodles.

A woman who insisted on living in her own home, Jackie leaves her dearest friend and neighbor, Jan Watson, who was a true friend to Jackie and Jackie’s family the past few years. Jackie’s companion was Dolly, her beloved cat, who has found a home with Jackie’s family in Nevada.

Jackie leaves her brother-in-law, David Litten (Betsy McReynolds), and their family.

She will be interred at Newton Burial Park next to Kurtis and Jim at a private burial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Moss House, Nevada, Missouri in c/o Ferry Funeral

Obituary - Paul G. Kalsow


Paul G. Kalsow of Harrisonville, Missouri, beloved father-figure and friend, died at age 99, on January 27, 2025.

Paul was born in Granton, Wisconsin, on May 29, 1925 to Edward A. Kalsow and Selma Krause.

Paul served in the U.S. Air Force; For nine years. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. Paul served in the Korean War. He was a farmer prior to his military service.

Paul worked and retired from Western Electric, also known as AT&T and raised cattle. Paul went full-time farming and raised cattle for decades.

He is survived by his friend Daniel Lafferty of Harrisonville, Missouri.

Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with interment at Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.

Obituary - Jerry Petty


Jerry Petty of Wheatland, Missouri wishes were to be cremated. A memorial graveside service and inurnment with Military Honors will be 11 a.m. February 22, 2025 at Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Missouri. His Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. February 22 at Modern Brick in Butler. His family asks that you pour a cold one, tell an inappropriate joke, and remember Jerry the way he wanted: laughing, swearing, and shaking your head in disbelief of what may have just come out of his mouth! In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation to Rapid Response Charities. Jerry Dean Petty, age 74 of Wheatland, Missouri passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

Jerry was born November 15, 1950 to John and Peg (Summers) Petty in Wagner, South Dakota. Jerry, the middle of five children, lived several places before the family settled back in Adrian, Missouri. Jerry was a member of the Adrian High School Class of 1969.

Jerry married Nancy Richards on February 1, 1969 and to this union, two daughters were born, Kelli and Karli. He joined the United States Navy in 1970 and served two years during Vietnam on the USS Ranger. He and Nancy then made their home in Adrian. The rest of his career was spent driving a truck.

Jerry was a proud member of the VFW. He was serving as Post Commander of the Galmey Post at the time of his death.

Jerry loved Busch Light, fast cars and making people laugh. He would literally give anyone the shirt off his back, except maybe his wife. Many referred to him as “Big Papa” although he only had 10 actual grandkids, he acquired countless over the years, all of which fought over who was his favorite. Jerry was a local legend. He was the guy you called when your motor wouldn't start, your deck needed fixing or you just needed someone to have a drink with. He never told you he couldn't help, even if his family complained about it.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, John Petty; father and mother-in-law, Gene and Betty Richards; and a sister, Cheryl Bagby. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Petty of the home; his mother, Peg Petty; two daughters, Kelli Heckadon (Perry) of Butler, Missouri and Karli Romine (Ken) of Lansing, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Danika (Rocky), Drew, Chase (Gretchen), DeMarco, Peyten, Tristen, Kolt, Jaylon, Wyatt and Kole; and three brothers, Steve (Linda), Denny and John "Bufe" (Jonna) Petty. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
