Obituary - Jerold Chester Davis

Jerold Chester Davis age 87, Hume, Missouri passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Jerold “Jerry” was born May 13, 1947 to Chester and Opal Davis. Jerry had a brother 10 years older Named Dale. Jerry was born and raised in the Amos, Mo community. He attended the Amos Elementary School (one room school house) and graduated from Hume High School in 1955.

Jerry had tremendous passion for horses and cattle at a very young age. He would ride horses with his friend Richard Brooks all over the country side South of Hume, Mo. You can imagine the mischief they may have conjured in these early years and probably through High School.

Jerry had a long career as a General Motors/Chevrolet Parts and Service Manager. He started this career in Kansas City, MO at DeBaker Chevrolet and stayed employed there learning the parts business for 20+ years. In 1973, Jerry and his loving wife Donieta moved back to Hume so he could be more closely involved with his parent’s Davis Rodeo Company. He got back into the Chevrolet Parts Management business with local dealerships until he finally retired, completing over 40 years in this line of work. Jerry had an incredible memory, he could rattle off any parts number on any GM automobile produced from the 1960-1980s. No computers in this era but no worries, Jerry could find any part faster than anyone and had the numbers stored in his brain.

Jerry was committed to community service and served many years on the Hume City Council, Hume Fair Board and School Board. Jerry was an excellent listener. He always wanted to know all the facts before possibly expressing his opinion. He led primarily by his actions and gave personal opinions rarely and only when based on careful consideration of the facts.

Davis Rodeo Company productions through the 1960s into the 1980s was likely the highlight of Jerry’s life. Rodeos throughout Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma and the western half of Missouri were target destinations for about every weekend during summer for many years. The Rodeo crew was considered family and many great memories came from all those years of hard work.

Jerry was united in marriage to Donieta Patton on February 14, 1974. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dale Davis.

Jerry is survived by four sons, Kevin Davis, Tim Davis, Greg Patton, and Todd Dalzell, and five grandchildren, Riley Patton, Rachel Patton, Thomas Davis, Jeremy Davis and Sharla Davis.

I know Jerry would want anyone that is reading this to know he appreciated your friendship and he would tell you to work hard but player harder!!!!

Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Hume Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Underwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 am to service time at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Underwood Cemetery. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
