Butler sophomore places well in Fleet Reserve Association essay contest

 


Butler Sophomore Sam Henderson earned third place in the FRA (Fleet Reserve Association) Americanism Essay contest by answering the question, "What Does Service to America Mean?"

Obituary - John Edward Brockman

John Edward Brockman, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Nevada on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Missouri with his children by his side. John was born on October 21, 1944 to Otto and Lena (Neighbors) Brockman in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

     John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon Kay Aldredge, on June 29, 1963 and to this union three children were born. John loved his family with all of his heart and soul.

     John briefly served in the US Navy and received a medical discharge. He retired from the Nevada School District in 2008 after 25 years of employment as the Supervisor of the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Nevada Eagles. His greatest joy in life was his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon of 56 years;  sister, Kathy Hanson, sister, Phyllis Delong, and brother, Jerry Brockman. He is survived by his three children, Sheryl Raines of Nevada, Shelly Hastings of East Lynne, Jeff Brockman (Becky) of Nevada; five grandchildren, Chelsie Poe (Kyle), Briana Wiley, Colton Hardy, Tyler Hardy (Tayten), Austin Hastings (Emilie); eight great-grandchildren, Bentley, Tinley, Lyric, Nova, Cammy, Rhettlyn, Layne, and River.

     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Lorne Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Luann Kay Noss, 70, of Adrian, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at her home.

Harrisonville students participate in Educators Rising State Competition


 On Friday, March 7, six Cass Career Center Teaching Professions students competed at Educators Rising State Competition in Fulton, Missouri. Four of the students qualified for Nationals in Orlando, FL this June.

Megan Lalman, Harrisonville High School, placed 1st in STEM Lesson Planning and Delivery. She also took 4th place in Administration Interview and Presentation. Emma Holsten, Lone Jack High School, placed 2nd place in Educators Rising Moment. Montanna Mears, Drexel High School, placed 4th place in Support Service Interview and Presentation. Sarah Torres, Harrisonville High School, placed 5th in TedTalk: the Effects of AI in Education. Lily Feece, Harrisonville, and AJ Junge, Archie, also competed.
