Bears travel to Pittsburg State for annual Jock’s Nitch/PSU Gorilla Relays

The high school track team travelled to Pittsburg State University on Friday for their annual Jock’s Nitch/PSU Gorilla Relays. This meet was mostly moved to their indoor facility because of the threat of storms that was forecasted all day. This is a regional meet with schools from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma attending with sizes ranging from Class 1 to Class 6 schools. We use these types of meets against larger schools as “state meet practice” against the tougher competition that we normally would see in local meets. The athletes have to qualify for these meets, so we took fewer athletes than normal. As expected, the Bears competed strongly with our small squad and set 9 new personal records and brought home 3 medals, all of them gold! In addition, a new meet record was set as well as a new school record!

Below are those placing in the top 8 of their event that earned team points and those earning personal records.

Archie holds very special celebration

On Friday, April 4th, the Archie 8-Man Championship Football Team celebrated with their family, friends, and community members. Scott Gaddie served as the Master of Ceremonies, welcoming guests and speakers. Representative Sherri Gallick presented each player and the school with a resolution. Archie alumni Erwin McDonnell presented the Humbird family with a memorial to honor #47, Miles Humbird. Brad Hocker returned to his alma mater to share a special message with the champions, recognizing those who have helped lay the foundation at Archie. Coach Hocker expressed his admiration for the team’s ability to overcome adversity. Coach Smith highlighted some of the season’s key moments and acknowledged the team’s determination.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the championship rings! Achieving one championship is an incredible feat, but back-to-back championships is something most will never experience.

Thank you to the parents and fans who supported this team throughout the season! We truly have an ArchieStrong community!

Nevada fire department honors Tyler Janes

We are pleased to announce the 2nd addition of our Nevada Firefighter Spotlight, Captain Tyler Janes.

This year marks Tyler's 7th year with the Nevada Fire Department. During his time here, he has moved up through the ranks quickly, excelling in each position he has held. Tyler is currently our Inspection Captain on "B" Shift and recently passed the Missouri State Fire Inspector Certification. This position requires a lot of work to keep all buildings up to code, and Tyler is often required to come in off duty to complete inspections or catch up on work not finished during his shift.
Captain Janes has been married to Tiffany for 4 years, and they have two daughters, Kendall and Rowan. In his spare time, Tyler enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, and golfing. In addition to his work at Nevada Fire, Tyler also works at Vernon County Ambulance District and volunteers with El Dorado Springs Fire Department.
Captain Janes is a true asset to our department and continues to grow as an officer each and every day. His time and dedication are greatly appreciated.
