Bears travel to Pittsburg State for annual Jock’s Nitch/PSU Gorilla Relays
The high school track team travelled to Pittsburg State University on Friday for their annual Jock’s Nitch/PSU Gorilla Relays. This meet was mostly moved to their indoor facility because of the threat of storms that was forecasted all day. This is a regional meet with schools from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma attending with sizes ranging from Class 1 to Class 6 schools. We use these types of meets against larger schools as “state meet practice” against the tougher competition that we normally would see in local meets. The athletes have to qualify for these meets, so we took fewer athletes than normal. As expected, the Bears competed strongly with our small squad and set 9 new personal records and brought home 3 medals, all of them gold! In addition, a new meet record was set as well as a new school record!
Archie holds very special celebration
On Friday, April 4th, the Archie 8-Man Championship Football Team celebrated with their family, friends, and community members. Scott Gaddie served as the Master of Ceremonies, welcoming guests and speakers. Representative Sherri Gallick presented each player and the school with a resolution. Archie alumni Erwin McDonnell presented the Humbird family with a memorial to honor #47, Miles Humbird. Brad Hocker returned to his alma mater to share a special message with the champions, recognizing those who have helped lay the foundation at Archie. Coach Hocker expressed his admiration for the team’s ability to overcome adversity. Coach Smith highlighted some of the season’s key moments and acknowledged the team’s determination.
The evening concluded with the presentation of the championship rings! Achieving one championship is an incredible feat, but back-to-back championships is something most will never experience.
