Weekly report from the Bates County Commission

April 2, 2025 The Bates County Commission met with Presiding Commissioner Jim Wheatley, Northern Commissioner John Gray and Southern Commissioner Trent Nelson present.

Revision of Order 2022-01-AB was discussed. The Document states who is the custodian of record for each office. An increase in the hourly fee clerical work to $15.36 and the addition of John's and Kacie’s name.

John made the motion to replace Ordinance 2022-01-a with 2022-01ab. Trent seconded the motion. All voted yes. Motion carried. No opposition.

Trent Nelson reported on issues in Walnut and Rockville townships, including a collapsing road and water covered road caused by a beaver dam.

Jon Roberts with MarksNelson had called on Tuesday and requested the Ordinance or Resolution to start the EEZ Board. Deputy Clerk Cara Keller dug them up from the stored files and found some documents from the board as well. The files are set aside for him to look over and the Resolutions was emailed to him. Jim stated there was a difference of opinion with past board members that led to them dropping the board and it never started back up.

The letters were sent to the landowners of Rattlesnake Hill. Trent stated he talked to the Delucas and their neighbors the Geigers. He believes the information was put out on a Facebook page for Rattlesnake Hill.

At 2 pm the Aluminum tube bids were read. In attendance Road and Bridge supervisor Bill Stephan, Christian Farris with Viebrock and Brian Testerman with Metal Culverts. A bid from Welborn was mailed in. After the reading with all numbers checked and product all equal.

Trent made the motion to accept the bid from Viebrock being the lowest bid will all things equal. John seconded the motion. All vote yes. Motion carried. No opposition.

Jim has asked County Clerk Jami Page to investigate the phone systems and contracts.

Missouri 4-H honors Cheryl Mohr

Cheryl Mohr is a dedicated 4-H leader who goes above and beyond to support youth in Bates County. As a project leader for sewing, quilting, and interior design, she mentors members both individually and in groups, helping them develop valuable skills. Cheryl also plays a vital role in the county’s 4-H Fashion Revue, where she ensures that community service is a key component.

Each year, she leads youth in hands-on service projects, such as sewing bibs for elderly residents, making quilts for children entering foster care, and collecting blankets for Project Linus. She has also guided members in assembling personal hygiene bags for girls in Africa and Guatemala, helping them stay in school. Through her leadership, 4-H’ers learn the importance of giving back while creating meaningful, useful items for those in need.

Beyond Fashion Revue, Cheryl actively participates in club and county activities and fundraisers, demonstrating her passion for 4-H. Her dedication to service and education embodies the 4-H pledge, using her hands for larger service to benefit her community, country, and world.
