Highway Patrol releases more photos from Vernon county tornado

On April 2, a tornado ripped through Vernon County, Missouri, just after 7:30 am as the
National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 twister had touched down southwest of Moundville, then traveled northeast through Nevada, not before it ended near Walker, Missouri.

One person was injured by a falling tree and fortunately, no fatalities.  As a damage valuation is yet to be revealed, it appears cleanup and rebuilding will take a considerable amount of time.

Cruzin' in Amsterdam tonight

Main street in Amsterdam is alive tonight with vintage and classic cars and trucks, all part of the Second Saturday festivities held each month. And yes, cruise night on the second Friday will happen into this Summer. Come on out!

Not to toot our own horn, but...

The stats above were provided by Google showing that the Mid America Live website has received over 7 million hits since its inception in July of 2010. In all, we've made 57,409 posts in that time and combined with Facebook, the website reaches folks from all around the area very close to 100,000 times a week.

First, we'd like to say thank you to everyone who appreciates our work- it's not easy to keep up with everything going on but we try our best.

Second, the addition of the News-Shopper newspaper just over 5 years ago reaches the balance of those who are not online, adding at least another 10-15 thousand pairs of eyes each week.

Since all of our services are free to the public, we get paid through advertisers and to them, we want to express thanks for your support as well.

That said, if you advertise here, we offer the most reach in the area which is primarily an 8 county or so region. For as little as $10 we'll get the word out! Want to know more? Call 660-492-8758 or drop an email to midshopper@gmail.com.

One more time, thank you!

Meth, paraphernalia possession results in multiple arrests in Butler

On April 4, the Bates County Sheriff's Office served a narcotics search warrant at 410 N. Fulton in Butler. 3 people were arrested at the residence. Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and narcotic distribution equipment were located and seized from the home.

George Lewis, who is also a registered sex offender that is currently out on bond, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance and was held on a $100,000.00 cash or surety bond. Lewis has since bonded out of jail.
Two females in the residence were also arrested, but were later released.
"This is another example of the men and women of the Sheriff's Office continuing to put in the work to take these career criminals off of the streets. Mr. Lewis has a long history of breaking the law and was already out on bond in connection with a sex crimes case, but has proven that he holds no regard for the law and will continue to be a menace to the community. We will continue to go after career criminals and put them in jail for the crimes they commit" Says Sheriff Anderson
