Report from the Bates County Commission

July 28, 2025 The Bates County Commission met with Presiding Commissioner Jim Wheatley and Southern Commissioner Trent Nelson present. Northern Commissioner John Gray was absent.

Bill Stephan was asked to come in to talk about the culvert installed on road 2007 for the Zweifel drainage issue previously noted on June 11th. The residents are stating the tube installed was set to high and the drainage issue is still present. Bill is to go look and make repairs. Bill also mentioned the Mower Max that the county is having a lot of repairs for the 3 months they have had it. Jim and Trent checked with other counties that have the same machine and they have not had the same experience. This problem seems to be related to this one.
Jim spoke with Judge Highley on the Opioid Settlements. An application for a settlement has come through. He also was updated on the Board she is creating to handle the money. She is still working on the process.
Jim spoke with Commissioner Joe Wilson in Vernon County on SEMA.
A citizen called in on receiving her valuation notice from the Assessor late.
Jim called Representative Mark Alford's office. Jim urged him to keep the funding Work Force Development, WIOA, and Job Centers. Our area only has 2 job centers now Sedalia and Nevada. Jim requested Representative Alford to visit a job center either in Sedalia or Lebanon.
