Athlete of the Week

We are so happy to announce the first athlete of the week for the 2025-2026 school year, senior, Kamden Fennewald from Butler. Kamden was nominated by head coach Heather Goldammer. Kamden is strong in the classroom as well as on the court. She currently has a 4.415 gpa and is ranked top of her class. She is the setter for the varsity volleyball team. Coach Goldammer stated “Kamden has one of the highest volleyball IQ of any player she has coached, and while the team has several standout attackers this season, they couldn’t do that without the quality setting of Kamden. She is a leader on and off the court and takes an active role in helping coach the underclassmen setters.” We asked Kamden who is someone you look up to when it comes to sports and she stated “my sister Taitlyn. She played the same sport as me and coached me in club volleyball. She is just someone I look up to.” We asked her what advice she has for younger athletes and she stated “that attitude plays a big role in your success. Staying positive helps you and really helps your team”. When asked what she feels like it takes to be a successful as an athlete she stated, “not letting yourself get down when you make a mistake, just not letting a mistake get to you.” It was a pleasure speaking with Kamden. The Lady Bears are currently 4-0. We wish them the best of luck this season!

Slim chance for rain in Bates county today

As for EAST KANSAS AND WEST MISSOURI, the greater chance for severe thunderstorms lies to our west today.
Late afternoon though, look for a few isolated to clustered thunderstorms around the I-35 corridor.
If any of these storms encounter pockets of instability, they could be strong.
By and large though, they will fade as the work their way east.
