Harvest season brings area accidents

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been at least three accidents around the area involving grain haulers and farm equipment, sending at least on person to the hospital with serious injuries.

This is to serve as a reminder to share the road and be on the lookout for potential hazards as local farmers work to get corn to market.

Archie man seriously injured in I-49 accident

Just after noon on Tuesday, a 66 year old Archie man received serious injuries when the vehicle he was driving southbound on I-49 near mile marker 150.6 was struck in the rear by another vehicle resulting in a rollover crash.  The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital; the driver of the other vehicle, an 18 year old Adrian man received minor injuries and was released at the scene.

Currently the accident remains under investigation.

Due to a policy change, the MSHP no longer provides names of victims in publicly available accident reports. Hardcopy detailed reports are available from the MSHP at a cost of $6 with an unknown delivery time due to a severe backlog, according to the MSHP website.

Rick was born on July 16, 1959, in Kansas City, MO, to Donald and Patricia Boone. His love for fast cars began at a young age, growing up around the race track. Rick began his lifelong career with Local 541 Heavy Construction Union working for companies like Commanche Construction, Reike Brothers, and Foley Company during his time as a Teamster.

Rick will be remembered for his love of family, especially his kids and grandchildren. At any family gathering, you could find him taste testing a piece of each flavor of pie, especially ones made with chocolate. You knew Rick really loved you if he would share his Reese’s peanut butter cups with you; they were his favorite. The only place he loved more than home with his family was the beach. He called it his happy place.

Rick is survived by his wife, Debbie Boone; mother, Patricia Boone; children: Rachel Blackmore of Raymore, MO; Travis Boone of Independence, MO; Sarah (John) Towle of Johnston, IA; and Sarah (David) Powell of Grain Valley MO; grandchildren: Dylan, Dalton, Dustin, Zoey, Brenton, Ricky, Presley, Jace, and Maddix.
