Obituary - Terry Fleener

Terry Robert Fleener, 70, of Nevada, MO, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.   Terry was born on September 7, 1955, in Independence, Missouri to Robert and Shirley (High) Fleener.

Terry graduated in 1973 from William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO.  He then moved to Nevada and began working at Crane Plumbing in December, 1973, where he would retire from 35 years later.  Terry met and married the love of his life, Kathy, on May 3rd, 1974, who he would go on to have three children with. Terry came out of retirement and began working at ADM starting January 2011 and retired from there September 2017. In January 2018, he yet again came out of retirement to work part time at O’Reilly Auto Parts for the next 5 years.

Terry was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. Terry learned the hard way to always remember to put the plug in the boat so it doesn’t sink (Sorry, dad, Jason knows). Terry spent his 70th birthday at Kauffman Stadium with his family watching the Royals play, even though they didn’t win, it was one of his favorite memories. He enjoyed coaching the Kansas City Chiefs from his chair, although they couldn’t hear him, the neighborhood could. In 2024 he took his first cruise and won the top prize in Bingo (free bingo every night and a $250 credit) which he loved to tell everyone about.

His dedication to his family and his strength helped him to accomplish many feats. His biggest accomplishments were his 35 years of sobriety, something he very seldom talked about and 51 years of marriage to his best friend and wife, Kathy. Terry was a friend to all and loved spending time with his kids (3), grandkids (12), great grandkids (11), and his dog, Snoopy.

Terry is survived by his wife, Kathy, Nevada, MO;  his children, Lori Conner, Nevada, MO, Jason Fleener (Tammy), Nevada, MO, and Keri Yount (Korey), Bronaugh, MO; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his father, Robert Fleener, Independence, MO; a brother, Russ Fleener (Lisa), Kansas City, MO; a sister, Terressa Yeager (Mark), Independence, MO; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Richard Burdick (Sandy), Nevada, MO, and Ron Burdick (Betty), Bronaugh, MO; and a sister-in-law, Karen Pate, Nevada, MO.   He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Fleener; and a son-in-law, Dusty Conner.

Memorial services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Ferry Funeral Home.   The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
