Eli Ferrell makes Homecoming appearance

As Eli Ferrell continues a long road to recovery following a serious auto accident, he did make a very special appearance at Deaton Field in Butler last last night. Below are words from his mother, Savannah:

Tonight I witnessed something I wasn’t sure I’d ever see again.

Eli wheeled himself onto that field wearing his number six Butler Bear jersey — and for a moment, it felt like the whole world stood still.
The crowd, the lights, the smell of the grass — all the things he’s fought so hard to get back to. That smile on his face said more than words ever could.
These boys, this team — they’re not just teammates, they’re family. Every single one of them has carried a piece of Eli’s fight right alongside him and I can never thank them enough!
We may not have walked away with the win tonight, but seeing my boy back under those lights, surrounded by the people who have loved and prayed him through the unthinkable — that’s a victory no scoreboard could ever measure.
Shoutout to my sister for capturing the moments I am to busy crying through !

Amoret man seriously injured in train accident

Around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, police and first responders were called to a railroad crossing on county road 3002 just north of Amoret on a report that a train had struck a motorcycle. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol report, the 68 year old male rider was westbound on 3002 when the train made contact with the motorcycle, ejecting the rider.

The patient was airlifted to Research Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment and his current disposition is unknown. The MSHP was assisted at the scene by fire department personnel and the Bates County Sheriff's Office.

Due to a policy change, the MSHP no longer provides names of victims in publicly available accident reports. Hardcopy detailed reports are available from the MSHP at a cost of $6 with an unknown delivery time due to a severe backlog, according to the MSHP website.
