Cody’s Chamber Check-In: Hucksters Day Reflects Butler Pride
What excites me most is not only seeing the Hucksters Day event grow each year that I have been a part of it, but what it reflects about Hometown pride. Butler has always been a community of supporters—people who care deeply about local businesses and their neighbors. After briefly moving away, I knew I wanted to come back and do whatever I could to help this town thrive.
As Executive Director of the Chamber, my role is to promote commerce in Butler, but I’m fortunate to work alongside a community that shares that vision. The citizens of Butler are showing up, supporting one another, and helping more businesses grow. Hucksters Day wasn’t just a reflection of the Chamber’s work—it was a reflection of the work our community is willing to put in.
Even in the rain, people came to the square, supported their neighbors, and demonstrated exactly how community drives commerce. That’s what makes Butler such a special place, and I am proud to call it home.
--Cody Morris, Executive Director, Butler Area Chamber of Commerce
Restoration nears completion
This historic mural was on display in the Fisk building during Huckster's Day giving everyone a preview of what's to come again to the Butler square. Electric City Downtown has mostly completed the project; at current only the light colored strip on the right is all there is left to do before putting it back on public display.
Mid America Live and the News-Review will be following this story and provide all the details including permanent location, once it is finished.

New business spotlight: Deems Tire & Service
Following 10+ years as a mechanic, which includes some time doing the same for UPS, Justin Deems decided he wanted to start his own business providing a service in an area where it is obviously needed- a tire and mechanical repair shop in Hume, Mo.
And despite any adversity, he's proud to say that things are going well because "hard work and happy customers always pays off" as he can attest.
Just outside his shop on the Hume square, a line of vehicles awaiting repair serves as a reminder that he picked the right business at the right time. in the right place. "Seems like I work seven days a week sometimes" he chuckled "but the community has been incredibly supportive" as sales have allowed him to increase his inventory as well as purchase some very important equipment that not only saves time, but gives him an advantage over some local competitors.
One such item would be a machine that is capable of balancing over sized tires for 'big boy toys' that utilize 37 inch tires on 22 inch rims, for example- according to Deems, these sizes can present challenges but he's got it covered for patrons who need to balance large tires.
Besides having a growing inventory of the most common tire sizes and providing all types of tire related services, there is much more offered at Deems Tire & Service, including brake work, tune ups, drivetrain repair, electrical repair and most anything automotive related.
"We'll be adding even more soon" said Deems "Other on-demand items such as batteries, washer fluid, wiper blades and more" will be available in the facility that currently consumes two side-by-side buildings on the west side of the square.
Deems Tire & Service is located at 9358 SW 2nd street, Hume Mo 64752 and can be reached any time at 660-643-7207. Call or come by any time for the best in local prices and top notch customer service.
