Community First Bank makes heavy donation to Frontier Village

Back in the day, no one had to worry that a bandit on horseback would tie a rope to this safe and yank it into the street. In fact, due to its design, it would take a LOT of dynamite to break this egg

HOWEVER this unique 1870's giant was safely (pun intended) transported from Community First Bank in Appleton City to its new home at Frontier Village in Adrian thanks to dedicated volunteers and some sheer ingenuity. "A real heavy son of a gun!" said one of those who helped move the safe (it weighs more than some cars) onto the trailer.

Following the move, "We now have become a living history park" said another member who noted that Frontier Village and the annual WMATAMA show has become much more than tractors and steam engines as the buildings are filling with all kinds of historic items which will include this very unique cannonball safe.

Julee shows a lot of HEART for our Hospital. She keeps it looking nice and celebrates holidays and special events, which helps make the hospital look festive and fun. She is thoughtful of others and has a giving heart. I feel like Julee does a lot for our hospital and doesn’t always get the credit that she deserves. She is always thinking of others and always offers to help when she sees that you are busy and may need help. Julee is also always quick to do nice things for other people and is thoughtful to her coworkers, always treating them with respect.

Julee serves as our Administrative Assistant and also helps serve the hospital as a member of our Bereavement Committee and helping out the EMH Foundation with fundraising events. Thank you for all you do Julee! Congratulations!

Butler Saddle Club seeking Queen and Princess candidates

The Butler Saddle Club Queen Committee is now looking for rodeo queen and princess candidates for the 73rd annual Butler Saddle Club Rodeo. The rodeo is set for June 19-21.

Queen candidates must between the ages of 16-21, not married and no kids, must ride a horse, and attend rodeo practices. Queen candidates are judged on 4 categories: ticket sales, personality, appearance, and horsemanship. All candidates will receive 10% of total ticket sales.

Princess candidates must be between the ages of 9-15. Princess candidates are encourage to ride a horse if they have one (Riding is not mandatory for princesses) and attend rodeo practices. Princess candidates are judged on 3 categories: ticket sales, personality and appearance. All candidates will receive 10% of total ticket sales.

Butler Competitor of the Week Camden Davidson

Congratulations to our Competitor of the Week (3/30–4/5), Camden Davidson!

Camden, an 8th grader and three-sport athlete, is already making a big impact at BHS with an incredibly bright future ahead. At our home middle school meet last week, and Midway Meet, Cam broke the MS Boys 100m Hurdle record TWICE!

His performance surpasses one of the longest-standing records in Butler history set by Pat Ray back in 1977.

Keep up the great work, Cam! We’re excited to watch you continue to grow and compete at BHS. Let’s Go Bears!!

Butler track results from Pittsburg meet on Friday

On Friday, the high school track team travelled to their only out-of-state meet of the season to Pittsburg, Kansas, for the 37th annual Jock’s Nitch Gorilla Relays at the brand new track complex at Pittsburg State University. This meet is likely the most challenging meet the team will have all season outside of the state championship. Forty-four teams attended ranging from small class 1 teams like Sheldon to some of the best class 5 teams in Missouri like Ray-Pec and Nixa, and even included class 7 teams from Arkansas like Fayetteville. Not all athletes were able to participate due to the limited number of entries allowed by the meet organizers. The Bears made a Good Friday a great Friday by still managing to compete well with several scoring or setting 8 personal records, and two new school records were also set on the night!

Obituary - Shirley Sue Hanger

Shirley Sue Hanger, 86, of Windsor, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Windsor, Mo.

Shirley was born July 9, 1939, in Clinton, Mo., the daughter of Herbert “Pete” and Hazel (Carleton) Summers. She was married to Robert D. Hanger of the home for over 66 years.

Shirley was a beautician in Windsor for over 60 years, having owned and operated Cinderella Beauty Salon. She enjoyed cooking, canning vegetables, working jigsaw puzzles, and doing word search games.

Survivors include her husband Robert D. Hanger; daughter Rhonda Wheeler and son-in-law, Steve Wheeler; sister-in-law, Francine Ballinger; brother-in-law, Jerry Hanger; and several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jimmie Summers; and a sister-in-law, Linda Quick.

Graveside funeral services were held April 3, 2026, at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
