Hume Preschool receives recognition of excellence status

On March 19, 2026, Hume R-VIII Preschool achieved recognition of excellence through Missouri Accreditation. This distinguishes it as an exemplary program offering high quality programming to the children of Missouri.

The Missouri Accreditation of Programs for Children and Youth has awarded a Certificate of Accreditation to Hume R-VIII Preschool. This certificate is granted to quality programs that offer developmentally appropriate experiences in an environment conducive to children flourishing intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically.

Hume R-VIII Preschool will be included in the "Directory of Accredited Programs" located on the Missouri Accreditation website if the program selected that option. This directory, which serves as a useful guide to parents seeking a high quality program for their children, may be reached at www.moaccreditation.org.

The community of Hume, MO is fortunate to have a program such as Hume R-VIII Preschool available to serve its families. The Hume R-VIII Preschool was established in 1999 as a full day program to serve 3- and 4-year-old students and their families. This is the 9th accreditation certificate received by the Hume R-VIII Preschool Program and is valid through May 28, 2029.

Nevada police take wanted subject into custody without incident, over 20 grams of meth off the street

On April 9, Nevada Officer Barker obtained information regarding a subject with a felony warrant believed to be in Nevada. Officer Barker located the vehicle in question and made contact with an occupant inside the vehicle who was found to have an active felony probation warrant for their arrest. The subject was identified as Adam Covington.

Officer Barker was able to successfully take Covington into custody without incident. During a search of his person, officers located over 20 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Covington was transported to the Vernon County Jail on his probation violation warrant with no bond. Additional felony charges will be submitted to the Vernon County Prosecutor for review of formal charges.

Officer Barker has been a great asset to our department since joining. Great work staying proactive and helping keep our community safe.

Thank you from the Butler Lions Club

Thursday night we wrapped up the annual Butler Lions Club Radio Auction and there are many thanks to be paid- First, thank you Melody and 92.1 FM for allowing us airtime. A hearty thanks also goes to all those who donated money and items for what is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we couldn't do it without you.

All money raised by the Butler Lions Club stays local and again, we can't thank you enough. We are looking forward to next year!

Archie to receive nearly $160k for water improvements

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 7, 2026 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $158,000 loan to the city of Archie for planning and design work related to the city’s ongoing drinking water improvement project.

These funds will provide vital interim financing to cover early engineering and administrative costs while the city works with the department to secure a larger funding package for the drinking water project. The city expects the entire project to total $1.2 million, with construction starting in 2028.

The early planning phases of infrastructure projects often represent a significant financial burden for cash-limited communities with water and wastewater needs. The department’s goal for the planning and design loan program is to provide a cost-effective alternative to expensive private financing that allows communities to develop and deliver vital infrastructure projects for their citizens. These planning and design loans bear no interest and come with a five-year term. The department estimates its funding will save the city’s ratepayers approximately $33,000 in interest over the loan’s five-year term.

The department’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund finances improvements to water treatment plants, distribution systems and water storage and supply facilities. The fund also finances system interconnection and consolidation projects. Communities that borrow from the fund benefit from the below-market interest rate and from assistance a project manager provides throughout the project.

The department is committed to assisting Missouri communities with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. Through its Financial Assistance Center, the department provides funding opportunities for qualified communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. This project will be funded wholly or in part with monies received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

City of Harrisonville recognizes employees for their ongoing committment

AWARDS: During the Board of Aldermen on Monday, Mayor Zaring recognized a pair of employees for their dedicated service to the City.

Public Works Superintendent Kenny Hall received his 5-year service award, and Streets Department Supervisor JC Johnson received his 15-year service award.

We are beyond grateful for the hard work and dedication these two, and many others, put in to make Harrisonville a wonderful place to live, work and play!
