Obituary - Roberta Rives

Funeral services for Roberta Rives will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Butler First Christian Church.

Roberta Vanessa Rives, age 89 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler. She was born October 31, 1921 to Clifton and Hazel Morrison Fisher in Lockwood, Missouri.


Roberta is survived by two sons, George W. Rives Jr. and wife Linda of Peculiar, Missouri and Wayne L. “Luke” Rives and wife Sally of Butler, Missouri; five grandchildren, Chad Rives and wife Cindy, Kathy Todtenhausen, Angie Kauffman and husband Kermit, Josh Rives and wife Megan and Jeff Rives and wife Ashley; six great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Lanie, Gabe, Caden, Annabelle and Chloe. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George W. Rives Sr. in 2002; two granddaughters, Leslie Beard and a stillborn girl; two brothers, Wayne Morrison and Jack Fisher; a sister, Fernita Thomas; and two stepbrothers, Wallace and Bill Waggner.

Our new feature - The News Museum

This is the first installment of our new feature called The News Museum which will highlight a news story or event in Bates County from years past....this will become a weekly feature as more articles and photos come to us over time. 


From the News Museum this week is an ad for the Sky-Vue Drive in Theatre, formerly located on South Business 71 Highway in Butler. The ad (circa 1962) highlights Shootout at Big Sag with Walter Brennan and Flight of the Lost Balloon starring Marshall Thompson. Cost to see the movies was 75 cents per person.

Bear Backers coed dodge ball tournament coming Feb. 19th

How's your reflexes? Find out by joining the Butler Bear Backers coed dodge ball tournament on Feb. 19th at the Butler High School gymnasium. Needed are teams of 12 to 15 years of age and those 16 and older. Each team must have 8 players including two females. Cost is $100 for 12 -15 y/o teams and $150 for 16 and over teams. It will be double elimination with optional 3rd match for pride with trophies for each division.

Come have fun with this Butler High School athletics fundraiser. And yes, you can dress like the guy in the picture if you dare...
