From the desk of Senator David Pearce
After the governor presented his State of the State address this week and unveiled his budget numbers, we in the legislature will need to take on the responsibility of crafting a budget that will best benefit the future of Missouri. There is no denying that Missouri sits at a crossroads. We no longer have the option of relying on federal funds to plug large holes in our state budget. Since we are mandated by the Missouri Constitution to not spend more than we have, the budget creation process is that much more difficult.

Bates County Cattlemen's Dinner and Silent Auction this Saturday
The Ballard parent/teacher organization will be hosting the Bates County Cattlemen's dinner and silent auction this Saturday from 6-8 pm @ the Ballard School.
The dinner will include Smoked bottom round, baked potato, vegetable, dinner roll, dessert and drink. Cost for adults $6, kids 4-12 $4, and kids 3 and under free. To-go orders will be available.
Many items and gift certificates for the auction have been donated by Butler, Adrian, and Harrisonville businesses. The success of this fund raiser would not be possible if it were not for the support of our extended community. A huge thank-you to everyone who has given so generously to benefit our kids.

Adrian teen injured on 18 highway this morning
Around 8:15 this morning Jesus A. Arrendondo, 18, of Adrian sustained moderate injuries in an accident on 18 highway near county road 8253. The Eastbound 1995 Honda driven by Arrendondo apparently crossed the center line, over corrected and traveled off the right side of the roadway with the vehicle coming to a rest on its top.
He was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Charges by the Missouri Highway Patrol are pending at this time.

BUTLER CITY COUNCL MEETING-JAN 17, 2012
In Butler City Council news, the Council feels it's time to update its agreement with United Telephone, seeing as how the present one is 45 years old, and has been charging the phone company only two dollars per pole for it to lease space here in town.
And besides, it's not even "United" anymore...the company is now "CenturyLink."
That company has indicated it's willing to go to eight dollars per pole, and feels all is necessary between them and Butler, would be an amendment. However, the Council feels a new agreement is in order, so City Administrator Mark Arbuthnot and the city attorney will be holding further discussions. It appears that this can be settled without much trouble.
