Obituary - Wynona "Nonie" Leantha Ford
Wynona (Nonie) Leantha Ford, 78, Adrian, Missouri, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Adrian Manor Nursing Home in Adrian. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to Crystal Manor.
Obituary - Charles "Charley" William Mohr
Charles "Charley" William Mohr, 73, Peculiar, Missouri, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Butler, Missouri with visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Peculiar Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home, 600 West Wall Street, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
Charley was born October 30, 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Max and Erna (Kempfe) Mohr. He was a graduate of Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Carole Jeanne Tolbert on November 10, 1960 in Miami, Oklahoma. Charley grew up in the family Floral Business , Mohr Brothers Florist in Kansas City, Missouri, and later became the owner. He also worked as a Codes Inspector for the city of Peculiar for 14 years before retiring in 2008. Charley was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Berlin Wall crisis. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Butler. Charley enjoyed fly fishing at Bennett Springs and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Jeanne of the home; son, Chuck Mohr and his wife, DeDe of Marceline, Missouri; three daughters, Teri Mulch and husband, Steve of Peculiar, Missouri, Heidi Gilbert and husband, Raymond of Archie, Missouri and Debi Thomas and husband, Jim of Adrian, Missouri; two sisters, Joyce Abraham of Leawood, Kansas and Jeanette Maier and husband, Hans of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Gale Tolbert and wife, Jenny of Raytown, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Debi DeBacco and husband, John of Williamsburg, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Charles William Mohr, III and wife, Christine, Harley Mohr, Cheyenne Mohr, Travis Mulch, Chase Gilbert, Trey Gilbert, Christian Gilbert, Kolby Gilbert, Alexandria Thomas, Tannor Thomas and Zachary Thomas; 1 great-granddaughter, Annalise Harper Mohr; other relatives and friends.
Getting the most from your leftover turkey
Many people buy an
extra-large turkey so they can have an easy weekend of leftovers after all of
the hard work of the holiday meal. Turkey is very versatile and is an excellent
base for many post-holiday meals.
Practice safe food handling
methods to assure your leftover turkey is safe to eat. The turkey should not be
out for more than two hours after it has been cooked. For safe storage, remove
the stuffing and debone the turkey. Store the turkey in shallow containers in
the refrigerator. Shallow containers allow the turkey to cool faster preventing
growth of harmful bacteria. Use the turkey and stuffing within 3-4 days. Use
leftover gravy within 1-2 days. When you reheat the turkey or stuffing, assure
it reaches 165 degrees. Gravy should be brought to a boil before you serve it
as a leftover. If you freeze your leftovers, use them within 2-6 months.
Here are a couple of ideas
for using your leftover turkey:
Turkey and Potatoes Au Gratin
Serves 4
1 cup cooked turkey
1 pound frozen hash brown
potatoes
1 (10 oz.) can cream of
broccoli soup
½ cup fat-free sour cream
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup grated cheddar cheese,
divided
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a bowl, combine all ingredients leaving ½ cup of cheddar cheese. Pour into
an 8x8 pan sprayed with oil. Sprinkle with the remaining ½ cup of cheese. Cover
and bake 40 minutes. Uncover and bake another 20 minutes until the cheese on
top is browned and bubbly. (Recipe from Purdue Farms Incorporated)
Turkey Chili
Serves 4
2 tsp. cooking oil
¼ cup chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped celery
2 cups cubed cooked turkey
1 (15 oz.) can white beans
1 (11 oz.) can white corn
1 (4 oz.) can chopped green
chilies
12 oz. fat-free chicken broth
½ tsp. ground cumin
Heat the oil in a heavy
saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and celery and cook until onions are
clear. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well. Cover and simmer 15-20
minutes.

The Jr high Lady Bears had an excellent weekend at the Sherwood Tournament. Both teams are playing for the championship on Tuesday. This weekend we were able to achieve our team goals and some personal goals as well. The B team opened the tournament by defeating Drexel 25 -14. The A team continued the floor sweeping by defeating the Bobcats A team in a 39-26 win. The B team’s second game was a lopsided victory over Sherwood (32-8). The A team turned the scales topsy- turvey with their 52-4 victory over Hogan Prep. Job well done Lady Bears. Good Luck on Tuesday and bring home the gold!!
Obituary - Russell Skaggs
Russell Eugene Skaggs, 51 of Butler died Friday, November 16 at his home. Russell is survived by his mother, Dixiana Skaggs of the home; and one sister Rose Marie Heartsock of Independence, Missouri. Yule Log Hunt set for Saturday December 1st
The Victorian tradition of a Christmas Yule Log Hunt returns this winter
to Missouri. Poplar Heights Living History
Farm is hosting a Yule Log Hunt with wagon rides, bonfires, children's crafts,
tours of the Victorian Main House all decorated for Christmas and refreshments
on Saturday, December 1 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Craft area for the children will be available where they can make
pine cone bird feeders and stamp Christmas cards to send to family and friends. Wagon rides will continue through the
afternoon and you can toast a marshmallow on the bonfire.
Poplar Heights Living History Farm is
located 7 miles northeast of Butler, Missouri. From Butler go east on Highway H to Highway
UU, turn north at the sign and go 2 miles, turn east at the sign and you're
almost there. This 501c3 charitable
program is operated by the Marais des Cygnes Society.

Beryl Evelyn Robards, age 76 of Adrian, Missouri died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at her home in Adrian. She was born October 8, 1936 to Albert George and Florence Fields Knott in Baldock, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
Beryl's wishes were to be cremated. There are no services. A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
